Missy is finally off the Clavamox. I wonder if that will do anything to her numbers? I know she will be happy I am not shoving a pill in her face twice a day! I just wish it had cleared up her acne completely. :sad: I am trying the Hibiclens that Roni and Moonie suggested. I tried to find Oxydex on line, but it looks like they may be discontinuing it? It was out of stock or unavailable where I looked. Thankfully, the suggested substitute is the Duoxo I am using. I am really hoping the Hibiclens will be the magic bullet for her. She (we) have been dealing with it since February. It is the one thing that she absolutely hates me to do. And if she is in a bad mood, she even growls at me grr_red ! Poor kitty....life would be so much happier for her if we could get rid of that.
I think I have my boy(Phoenix) trapped in the fence, finally. :mrgreen: I just do not want him out in the evening.....too many coyotes in our area. I am relieved. I worry enough about Missy, I don't want to worry about where he is!
She went for a walk with DH & I today out to the back of our yard. It has been a while since she has done that. Good to see. Too bad Phoenix freaked out when he heard her rustling the leaves and puffed up, bounced over to her and scared her back up to the deck. At least she got some exercise running from him. :lol:

hi there! i was looking at missy's spreadsheet. bet you know what i'm going to say next. :lol:

evening spot checks. we need data from the PM cycles... even if it's just a daily before bed spot check... to give us a better idea of what the dose is doing. a before bed spot check will often provide clues as to whether further testing will be necessary that night... in an effort to keep missy safe. lantus kitties are known to have active cycles at night.

here's an example:

10/12 - no evening spot checks.
10/13 - AMPS 190 and missy went nowhere but up all day... 406 @ PM+2
that 406 is indicative of a bounce from a cat dropping to numbers it's body is not used to. a bounce can last for up to 72 hours.

what this little bit tells us is that missy went lower than her body is used to during the PM cycle on 10/12. she was coming up on 10/13 with that AMPS of 190. how low did she go the night before? we'll never know. thankfully, however low she went didn't send her into a hypoglycemic event.

she's due to come down any time now. will it be today or tonight? the only way to know is by spot checking. :mrgreen:

it just occurred to me that you might shoot missy at night and then go straight to bed.
most of us have set our shot schedules to allow getting a +3 or +4 before going to bed. it makes for uninterrupted sleep if kitty does not require close monitoring that night.

I totally agree with you about night checks. Have been getting that advice from a few people. :oops: The only thing I can say in my defense is that I have MS and associated fatigue issues. BUT, I have made a commitment to her to camp out on the couch and do that. I will have a couple of draggy days, but it is sure better to waking up to a hypo cat, or worse. :shock: I didn't realize their night cycle could be so active, but when I started to think of it, she doesn't get food all night, as opposed to a couple small meals during the day, so it makes sense she could be lower during the night. That is kind of scary.
And, you know, I did not really make the connection between the 190 AMPS on 10/13 and her continued rise that day. So, thank you for pointing that out. Jessica and Boo had mentioned a bounce from her lows on 10/07, but I don't think I had I had the terminology correct, in my mind. I think I am starting to get it. I sure hope so.
Getting more data on her and reading all of your posts to me (and thank you to everyone for taking the time to study her spreadsheet!!) I see how much I need to learn and how much more data I need. I guess I was operating pretty blindly and all along I was congratulating myself for always testing before shooting. :sad:
She is such a sweet girl. I want her to feel as good as I can help her to feel. I so wish I could figure out what tipped her out of remission. It was obvious how much better she felt then than now. :cry:

hi mares! just checking in on you and missy today. don't be too hard on yourself - some people won't test more than preshots, so believe me, you're one step up. your commitment to her is obvious.

Thanks for the kind words......I just wanna do what's best for my girl. I know I have a learning curve. I am open to any insight and info.

would rescheduling missy's shot to an earlier time help?
i'm thinking out loud... trying to think of ways to make it easier for you to get a before bed spot check every night. others may have more ideas.

you also mentioned missy not having access to food all night. can you leave food out for her in case she does drop? most cats will self feed when they feel their blood glucose dropping. i wish i could leave food out for alex, but she'd have it eaten before my head hit the pillow! :lol:

i don't think you have to stay up extra late to test her. all of us miss the low points sometimes. are there any hours between when you shoot him and when you go to bed - even 3 hours is enough to know if they're headed down.

we test punkin at +3 in the evening and as long as he isn't low enough for me to worry, i don't test him again. he gets his shots at 7am/pm. actually, i usually go to bed at his +4.5 (we always stay up to watch the news at 11) but unless i'm concerned i don't test after 10pm. i test him at 10 and give him his second dinner - a half can of FF.

I was considering your thought on doing her shot earlier. It probably would be doable, but then I realized DST is about to end and that might be kind of hard for me to adjust to. The other issue is DH is on 2nd shift, so I try to stay up to see him when he gets home. That's why our times are 10:30 and 10:30..... I am done with her test and shot before he gets home. Sometimes I stay up later, like tonight...it is nearly +2 already. I could check her now, crap out on the couch next to DH, instead of going to bed....and test her right before we head upstairs. (+3, maybe + 4 if I am lucky.)
The other thing I am thinking about is making myself stop and take an hour nap during the day so I am not so tired at this time. I start getting foggy in the head by now :roll: and it is hard to motivate myself, but if I had a short nap, it shouldn't mess with my sleep too bad and I won't be so foggy. And I can still do the nights on the couch now and again.
I can leave food out....used to be Phoenix would only eat his food and the ONLY canned food I can get Missy to eat was EVO. (I must have went through 90% of Binky's list before I found something she would finally eat) She won't touch any other canned food...even tuna! Weird little cat. But, all of a sudden Phoenix has turned piglet (stocking up for the winter?) and he will not get out of her food. He eats hers first and goes to his bowl. And they both have weight issues. He is at a good weight, now, but she still needs to lose. I weigh them weekly to bi-weekly to keep an eye on it since the diabetes, but since he has been eating her food he has been gaining. Not a lot, but he doesn't need to gain at all.
I'll work that out, even if it means they get a bit less during the day....
I am thinking I will try the nap thing this week and see how it goes....and maybe I will do one whole night on the couch
and get a pm curve....that wouldn't be a bad idea anyway. I could use the info. Good thoughts :mrgreen:
Well, since I am up, I think I will go check my fat kitty right now :smile:
