Re: 10/15 Morgaine AMPS 97

very nice amps number! morgaine sure is doing well!

i know you've been looking into ways to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides. i'm doing the same because alex's triglycerides have been pretty high and high triglycerides can cause some insulin resistance. i've already incorporated the use of omega 3s into her diet. i've recently come across a little bit here and there about the use of taurine in lowering the triglyceride level. have you seen any mention of taurine use and the effect on triglyceides in the course of your research?
just curious...

Marje shared some info about taurine with me. It is on the Tilly's site. I will get the link and post it later if you don't have it but i am sure you must have it. I have been adding a small pinch of taurine to Morgaine's food and she gets a fish oil capsule. 1000 mg, put on her food daily. I also have been advised to feed her lower fat foods so she eats a slightly higher carb diet than I would prefer and that is probably why her insulin dose is so high. She eats Pro Plan Turkey and Giblets, 6% carb and FF Roasted Chicken, 10% carb. Both have under 20% fat on a dry matter basis which is what the vet wants me to feed her.

I really need to get some blood work done but I have to find a vet who will come here and draw the blood. It is so costly and I have put it off. I don't want to take her to the vet I used as I am not pleased with her and I don't drive anymore so getting Morgaine out is so hard for me. I can't transport her myself. She gets totally stressed out and BG goes sky high.

So, I am hoping her triglycerides have come down from the months of treatment and lower fat foods. She is doing really well and seems very happy.

Re: 10/15 Morgaine AMPS 97

thanks, rosalie! i'm sooooooooooooo guilty of not going back to the same web pages i've seen multiple times to look for updates.
i did increase her taurine consumption to 500mg recently. i hope it helps. alex is also in need of blood work... hoping to have it done soon.

i'm doing a balancing act with alex. the ursodiol she's getting for inflammation and liver support requires a meal a little higher in fat for optimal absorption, her kidneys need foods with lower phosphorus, and she is ultra-sensitive to carbs.

ps --- sorry about hijacking your condo!

Re: 10/15 Morgaine AMPS 97

Great info today and also a beautiful AMPS for Morgaine.

Sure wish I could think of another mobile vet besides Dr. M. You know....if you find a vet you want to take her to, I can always drive/help you. I really like our current vets at Sunrise Pet Clinic....not very far from either one of us.

Thank you for such a generous offer. I also have a friend who is willing to take us but I do not want to stress her out as it takes days to get her BG back down and all I need is a simple blood draw for triglycerides. If I can't get a housecall vet I will talk to you about your vet. I am going to wait until Nov. and see where Dr. M is at as well. Maybe we can convince her to take Morgaine's care on and i can get another vet to do the blood draw if she can't. I do know a vet who is reasonable and he is friends with a good friend of mine. I just don't want him to be her main vet as he is too laid back for my tastes but he is a good technician and I think he will do this.
