We had a nice start with some dips down to lower blues, but we're in higher yellows tonight. She might be bouncing a bit from yesterday's stress of a vet visit (anytime she has to get gaba and get claws trimmed or bloodwork, it's hard on her). She did so good on the gaba yesterday though - we got it all into her, she didn't puke, there was no poopageddon. Probably the best gaba and post gaba experience ever.

It's weird, I've always thought of her as feisty and a bit fractious (and she's still hissy and swats, of course), but she's like the sweetest thing that will come up for pets and loves when I compare her to ceiling cat. Which makes sense, she's only known indoor life, and basically with me since she was month old. I do think there's hope for ceiling cat - my friend Shelbi and I have plans for the next couple of days while we have a few moments over fall break to see if we can get him to love pets.

He's still easily startled and scared in the below photo from earlier, but he's better than he was the first day, and makes small improvements each day. Also, he looks like his paws are huge in this image, and I wonder if he's gonna be a big kitty.

It took me that long to catch him! When outside, I would put his food down and sit in a chair near it. He would hastily eat, fearful the whole time. Gradually I moved the chair closer and then would touch him while he ate and gradually moved to petting him after time. Finally getting to where he had to pay petting to get his food. I’ve never seen such a scared kitty….after catching him I had him fixed and we put him in a spare bedroom. For months everytime I entered the room, he went under the bed. I put treats at the edge of the bed and sit in a chair away from them. Gradually he would crawl to the edge and eat them. Later I layed on my belly and gave him the treats under the bed. It took ages for him to gain trust but it was all worth it, as I have the most loving cat on earth now. He also had that pitiful sound and still does, it was just him, lol.

just give him time and let him adjust in his own time. It will take a long time maybe, but not a lot of work on your part, just patience. I would think you might be better for him than the humane society. The cute and cuddley are adopted and the shy ones often get overlooked. He may never get that special person to have the patience to let him have the time to feel secure and safe. If you can , give it a while….i totally understand if you can’t and have to give him up. Only you know your limits but think about it.

Just to start, I appreciate you sharing your story! :bighug: But, yeah, unfortunately between all the things I have going on for Kit (and the costs associated with those things - girl has gotten pretty expensive, and he/she would need fixed, shots, and I'd have to pay a $250 pet deposit and another $35 a month because of my apartment's rules) and being incredibly busy at work, I can't justify another animal right now, especially one who needs a fair amount of work. My work friend, Shelbi, came to see him this morning, and she's like a Disney princess. She wasn't able to pet him, but she was able to touch his nose a couple of times (he would only face towards her.) She also has two cats, a dog, and a toddler, so it's not really an ideal time for her as well, but she is absolutely in love with him (gray kitties are her favorite).
The current plan is to still try for a couple more days and see how he's doing on Friday, but that likely he is going to the humane society. I'm, like, 99% sure he won't be going to the students. That just seems like poor planning. If I had more time, and if Kit didn't have so much going on, keeping him would definitely be a thing I'd be thinking about. It's just not in the cards at the moment, unfortunately. Which sucks because he is cute, and I do love him already, but I also have to be cognizant of my limits, and I'm trying really hard to be better about it.
 
He or she is just so adorable, You have a lot going on with Kit , work and expenses. I totally get it.
I do agree he would be better going to the humane society where they can work with him . I know you feel sad but like you said it's just not in the cards right now. Sending you lots of hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I know. It's hard not to feel guilty about it though. But maybe they'll get him all tamed up and Shelbi or I see him up for adoption and one of us end up with him. It could happen.
 
Hi Alicia, Very glad to read it’s been doing well the past couple days and the vet visit went well. That’s great Kit was so calm and no problems with the gabapentin or poopageddon.

You’re doing such a great job with ceiling cat, too, it seems he’s such a little scaredy-cat and will definitely take time and effort to learn how to be loved. Poor little guy.
Sounds like you are putting him into a good situation where he will get the time and effort to socialize him properly. Hoping that will lead to a great home for him:)
You have as much going on as you can possibly handle right now with Kit cat and your schedule.

I hope you get good results back from the vet and you both have a great day :bighug::bighug::bighug:
