Morning ~O) ~O)
I am feeling less anxious about shadowpie's limp. It seems to come and go but it really flares after she jumps from her 3ft mini tower.
So maybe it won't be something scary.
But I know I should do the bloodwork anyway.
:?: Does anyone think it's better to do it before we are off the insulin ( assuming we can get a quick appt) , or during the trial,
or just wait until they are both past.
She's such a high anxiety girl, I'm afraid the vet visit will zoom her bg up or Does that not count when you know there is a cause for a number
spike?
She's acting perfectly normal otherwise, all 5 p's in place. I think she would play a lot more than she does if the droolers wouldn't come
stand and watch her wishing she would play with them. Most of her short bouts of play are when they aren't around.
She has started reaching over to my little table with the laptop on it and knocking things off just for fun. :o :-D :-x
I had a bunch of little pieces of paper sitting on top and she delightfully knocked each one down and watched it fall to the floor.
It's also gotten cool enough that she came and sat on my lap last night right before bed for scritches and purring.

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

If her leg is bothering her, I'm not sure I'd put it off. Sounds like it's not real serious, though, if it comes and goes. It's not a sympathy limp, is it? (One of those limps for sympathy...not a real limp)

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

I think it's not serious, it may be her nails are just getting too long. It may be arthritis from jumping.
She did spend a day in a very high cabinet last weekend and I keep asking her if she's ready and she declines and then later she jumped
down without letting me get her out. I'm thinking I won't let her get up so high anymore.
But I felt like when I pushed on a certain nail on her right front paw, she didn't want me to. I hope to get her to sleep on my lap later
today and use the big magnifier lamp I have for future quilting. I have to get her very relaxed to allow me to mess with her feet or any
part for that matter.

So I guess the real question is will it count against her if she has a spike reaction from the vet?

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

Hi Rhiannon,
If you think a visit to the vet is what is needed now--for Shadow's comfort and to set your mind at ease-- (and get the bloodwork over with), then I would go ahead and make an appointment. Shadow may indeed have stressed her leg or injured her nail when jumping down from the high cabinet last week, and her 3-ft. jump this week may have re-injured it. You don't want to ignore her possible pain just for the sake of a number! In any event, vet stress would not "set you back" with regard to an OTJ trial. Shadow's numbers on her tiny drop of insulin have been consistently good, and in the range of a normal cat.

Sending some healing vines for Shadow's leg (and some for your DD). And wishing you a good rest-of-the-weekend.

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

Hi Rhiannon, I think that's very good advice from Ella. It's been on your mind with the limp. If you can get her in for an appt, I think I would do it if it were me. Even if Shadow's bg does go up with the stress, she will come down once settled in at home. She is off to a beautiful start this morning. Have a nice Sunday.

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

For several years, when Shasta and I would go visit my parents, she would come back home with a limp. I always freaked out and took her to the vet and he would check her legs (this was when she was still kind of civilized at the vet's) and never find anything. And, I knew it wasn't her nails because I trim those, so no worries there. We concluded that she aggravated her joints when she jumped off of my childhood bed (tall canopy bed). Now when we visit, I take my small footstool with us so she can jump up and down using it!

Hope it's nothing serious for Shadow, but it's a good sign that all 5 P's are still holding strong! AND, I love that she's decided that your laptop table is her playground!!!! :-D Beautiful numbers as always! Happy Sunday!

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

No advice from us, just lots of cat_pet_icon's for Shadow to feel good :YMHUG:'s for you to know what`s right for you to do. Seems like you`re in a pretty win-win situation though, things are looking so good there in Shadow-World :-D

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

Nice numbers Shadow! I agree with Ella....and add healing vines to hers for Shadow's leg and your DD...and wish you also a good rest of the weekend! Hugs!

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

Add our healing vines to Shadow and DD. I'm glad otherwise she's got her P's in place.

I laughed at her antics pulling papers off the table. Leo did that just the other day. All I would see is one little paw come up over the edge of the table and little mini-whacks to pull off the papers!

Rhiannon, healing vines to Shadow, hope she's ok!!

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

I think I would take Shadow to the vet soon just to make sure it's not anything serious. I hope it's not. Looks like Shadow is having another nice surf today.

i agree with ella.

i wouldn't worry about shadow's numbers. if her numbers go up because of vet stress... they'll come right back down.
one thing i'd like to add... in addition to blood work, you might want to consider having an x-ray taken of the leg.

sending healing vines...

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80

HI Rhiannon, Shadow is getting great numbers, real surfmaster  . If memory serves (?), her last peak was when your DD went to hospital and her numbers quickly came down after that. It seems likely a vetty spike would come down quickly, not much impact the path she is on. The numbers are just numbers not the whole cat. You are there with her and if you think the vet visit will help her and will ease your mind then go for it. One aspect of OTJ trial is less frequent testing, that might be more manageable timing for vet visit.

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80 +3~78 +6~71 +10~86

Leslie, the last number spike we had was after changing to .25 dose. It was odd. She might have found a few kibbles of dog food.
Usually the dogs don't leave any food behind. But who knows. It wasn't when dd went to the hospital. I just saw it as a reaction to the
dose change and worried at the time that she wasn't ready to go down.

Shadow is acting perfectly normal. That's why I wonder.
The twitching is always accompanied by that really deep sleeping where it takes effort to wake her. Maybe she is having a really good
dream now that she feels so much better.
All her life before FD , she seemed to sleep with one eye open watching the world. But I slept a whole lot more back then so maybe
I never saw her sleeping deeply. (certainly not in the daytime)
Now that we are watching for it, the limping does come after jumping down. She has step stools and ways to do it without jumping but she
prefers the jumping. And then the limping goes away.

I was /am planning on calling tomorrow. I think the "good vet" isn't there til the end of the week and dd has gyn appt on friday in albuquerque.
So I'll just have to see when they can get us in.
I have felt up and down her leg and she doesn't react to that at all. Just the one toe, I'm wondering if she has a split nail. And shebarely reacted to me.
Her nails have never been trimmed in her life time.

I'll see what the vet says tomorrow.
I'm pretty sure they were going to push for the blood draw anyway so they can believe her bg is so wonderful.
I'm just feeling very poor right now ( got tons of supplies) but don't want big vet bills.
We just got caught up with that one, fortunately they let me drag it out some, I don't know how hard we are going to get hit with dd
bills. nailbite_smile And we've technically spent all of our 2012 medical budget... It's only october. nailbite_smile

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80 +3~78 +6~71 +10~86

rhiannon, just a shot in the dark...
sometimes low potassium can cause twitching. if they do a blood draw, make sure potassium is one of the values checked.

Re: 10/14 Shadow AMPS 90 +2~80 +3~78 +6~71 +10~86

I definitely wanted the potassium checked.
That was the discussion a day or two back in our condo when I asked about the twitching while sleeping.

I figured they might as well do a senior panel, make sure they look at the potassium, and get her trimmed here and there, nails, feet
and butt.
She won't let me. She is only submissive at the vets (poor girl ) as she is always scared out of her mind. She will get under my shirt
and try to hide, merge with me. cat_pet_icon
We'll get the stupid blood test out of the way now and hope she's good for a year after that.

Good luck at the Vets, hope everything turns out normal

Re: 10/14 Shadow PMPS 101

Hi Rhiannon - sorry for the late post. I really thought I had posted here this morning... silly me.

I hope all is well with Shadow - good luck to getting a vet appt. I am with the others - her numbers are so consistently good that I don't think a visit will set her back any.

Another great cycle today too. Such beautiful numbers.

I hope your day was good. Enjoy your evening!
