So, this is the 7th consecutive day that Grady has been between 40 & 130 on his lowered dose of .1u. If I understand correctly, now I'm supposed to stop giving insulin altogether and see where things take us. Should I try to do a curve or just treat it like a regular day, except without shots? At what point should insulin be given again? At the first number over 130 or do I need to give his body time to regulate itself and just ride the waves up and down for a while?

Hi guys .. woohoo, how exciting! When mocha started her trial we always tested at AMBG and PMBG, with no testing in between and no shots, 14 days of good numbers and you can consider yourself OTJ Grady! .. Thankfully mocha stayed green her whole trial so we never had to restart insulin so I'm not real sure what the starting point would be .. maybe someone else can help fill in the blanks here! You can check out Mocha's SS to kinda see how her trial went if you'd like!

Good luck@ Try feeding mini meals through the day to support his pancreas instead of bigger ones. You need two weeks of no insulin and numbers 50-130 to be considered OTJ.

Congratulations and here are the instructions for an OTJ trial:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

way to go, keep up the good work. My Lucky stayed in his greens to It' wonderful when no more insulin...your doing great he will see his OTJ Day celebration soon :RAHCAT
