I forgot to jot down Buster's numbers from the PM cycle. They weren't bad, but were slowly going up so we're not surprised to see the 160 this morning. Hope he can turn that around today. He is happy and purry anyway :-D

This morning we found Buster had pooped in the living room. Nicely formed, no blood or anything weird, just regular ol' poop, although it was pretty big I think. This is the second time in about a week. He is still peeing in his box, but I guess poo is another story. This sort of thing happened to one of my dogs when he got old. Is this an old cat thing? Buster is about 16, but is still strong.

I am going to clean out his litter box and put in fresh litter. My other thought is to give him a second box. He often goes outside, so I'm not sure what is going on. No big changes in the house, no other animals so I don't think it's stress. I clean his box daily. Maybe the Bupe is making him constipated?

I appreciate any thoughts. Hope your world is poop free! LOL!!

Re: 10/14 Buster AMPS 160 - poo outside the box?

Hi Tara:

First, yes, the Bupe could very well be constipating him. Have you tried adding a little bit of squash baby food or plain canned pumpkin to his food? I give Cinco about a teaspoon of the squash in his food every morning and it keeps things moving nicely, even when he's on ABs or Bupe.

Second, also yes, a second litter box is a great idea. Some cats like to use one for one activity and another for the other! Plus, if one doesn't meet his standards of cleanliness, he has another option! The "rule" is that you should have one more box than you have cats. I have seven! (I used to have five cats and it's a two story house). No such thing as too many bathrooms!

If these two options don't solve the problem, it's time to look for other causes - things that scare him away from his box, hidden illness, etc., but I bet you'll have some success with the above.

Sending in-the-box poo vines!!

Re: 10/14 Buster AMPS 160 - poo outside the box?

Sorry about the poo outside the box. Maybe he does just need another lb. A 20 year old GA kitty I had started pooping outside of the box. He seemed to be getting senile. But he would poop beside the box.

Re: 10/14 Buster AMPS 160 - poo outside the box?

Thanks, guys. The more I think about it, the more I think he's just slightly constipated. I weighed him today and he's holding steady at 14.5 lb (I thought he had gained some weight, but I was wrong). I will try the boxes and the squash. He turned up his nose at some coconut oil at lunch. This is my first older cat. My other kitties didn't get this far

When I had to give my Tiger bupe for her injured foot, she became constipated as well! Organic baby food squash helped immensely! The other problem is, it made her so loopey that she tried to sleep in the box, plus she pooped outside of the box, and I mean, her little rear end hung over the side of the box when she pooped! ohmygod_smile I was glad to discontinue using it after 3 days. I hope Buster feels better, and starts pooping where it belongs again soon!
