@Bandit's Mom

I’m worried Biggie might becoming hypersensitive to the insulin now…for the second evening in a row he’s run off after I only injected .5u of Lantus, and then ran off 3 times while I was trying to inject the rest.

Some thoughts I’ve head about things that may have changed:
I got a new box of syringes but they are the same ones as before (sure comfort 31 gauge 5/16 in.) Could the needles be defective and more painful for some reason? Has anyone experienced that?
His insulin vial has been open for two months now- it expires at the end of the month- not sure if insulin freshness has anything to do with it stinging.

I have read that some cats can be sensitive to Lantus as it has an acidic base, so I’m wondering if that is going on…he runs away after a tiny amount is injected, so makes me think it’s a reaction to the insulin. I thought I was hitting a muscle but this has happened two nights in a row now. I think he was fine this morning though.

I may not have been pulling the skin as tight and rolling it over my finger as I was in the past- so it could just be my technique. If so, maybe he feels it less when the skin is tight, so I will try not to stray from that technique. I do always make sure to have bevel up. I hope he doesn’t start to get needle shy.
