Just quick ? I'm feeding Fancy Feast...every 3 hours and through the night. Caesar is at 9 pounds was 11. He looks and feels thin. He is 16. Would like him to hopefully gain a little weight back. But don't want to over feed and interfere with bgs. What amount would be good for each feeding. It says 1 can to 3 or 3 1/2 pounds of body weight. FF is a 3oz can .I'm feeding 8 times a day. Should I feed him more to try and put some weight on him or will it interfere. He just always wants more.

What is important if you are trying to get him to gain weight is calories. I never fed Fancy Feast but a cat ranges from 82-96 calories per can (according to the catinfo list), depending on what flavour you feed. So first you need to figure out how many calories you want him to eat per day. Dr. Lisa has a formula you can start with which is required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70. What weight would you like him to be? If the goal is 11 pounds again (for an example), then the formula is 13.6 x 11 + 70 = 220 calories. If the average can is 90 calories, then that's a little under 2.5 cans per day.

Not sure what time you are feeding, but it's better to put most of the carbs in the first half of the cycle when the insulin is stronger and just do "snacks" after nadir. So each cycle divide one can in the first half of the cycle and leave the last 1/4 for later. The formula above is just a starting place, the amount needed can vary by metabolism or activity levels. Use your scale, weigh weekly and see if he's going in the direction you want, and adjust amounts accordingly.
