Sorry I didnt post yesterday. Was super busy and just didnt get on here to post. Really getting discouraged with this. We went up to 2.5u this morning hoping we are going to see better numbers. I am just hoping I didnt spend all this money for an insulin that is going take Doogle back to 3u or more. At least with Lantus we were hovering between 2.25 and 2.5. Should it be taking this long to show results? I thought levemir was a bit more potent than Lantus and normally cats need less. Just getting discouraged. :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH:

Re: 10/12 Doogle AMPS 236

Oh the on going debate between Lantus vs Lev.....

From everything I have read when people are talking about them is that the best insulin is the one that works for your cat. I don't really know much about Lev, but if I recall correctly the nadir tends to be later in the cycle. I considered making the switch to Lev as I just had to order new insulin, but Skooter seems to be doing well enough on the Lantus....

Hopefully it is just Doogle getting used to the Lev!

Sending vines to you both :)

Re: 10/12 Doogle AMPS 236

Thank you Molly! I just get impatient at times and hope for miracles I think. Doogle was doing ok on lantus but he was such a bouncy kitty. So after 2 years on Lantus I figured I would change and see. I am not giving up that is for sure. I am way to competitive to let something like this stop me....

Re: 10/12 Doogle AMPS 236

It sounds like part of your reason for trying the switch is to keep the bounces under control?

It is possible that he may end up at the same AMOUNT of Lev as he did Lantus, but end up not being such a bouncy kitty....keep in mind your reasons for wanting to switch and focus on seeing if those get better.....

Like I said, I am still trying to figure out Lantus, let alone the pros/cons or differences/similarities between that and another one :)

I am sure Doogle will do great with a mommabean who has an attitude like yours :)

Re: 10/12 Doogle AMPS 236+2 218

Again, thank you Molly!! You are awesome and a great motivator! He probably will end up with the same dose, came down from the 236 at +2 so that means his pancreas is at least working and something good is happening. You are in the absolute best hands here. I have been on the FDMB for 2 years and I love the people here! Marje helped me out tremendously and was a great mentor. You become family here and no matter what happens or how long its been since you have posted, you always have a place to call home.

Look forward to talking to you more!!! Are you on the FDMB facebook group?

This is another situation for patience pants. Cats need a little while to really learn to work the Levemir. Neko took at least a month before she settled in and I think Marje said it took Gracie a few months. As for dose, Neko was at 1.25F U of Lantus for a long time before we switched to Levemir, and since then (a little over a year), she's ranged from 1.75U to .75FU of Levemir. Remember, the dose they need today may be quite different from two weeks ago or two weeks from now. Levemir isn't more potent for all cats. Some need more, some need less. ECID as usual.
