Good Morning, LL
Blackie stayed in the blues last night and I suspect he's headed for a bounce. DH will be taking him to the vet soon. Even though the vet doesn't seem worried about his lump, I am worried. DH is going to talk to him about the lump when he takes him in. The vet said yesterday that even a healthy hydrated kitty would have absorbed that small amount of fluids by now. So what is it? Why is he afraid of aspirating it? As you can see, I'm stressing about it. And it didn't help that Blackie wasn't very hungry this morning. I even opened a can of Wellness Kitten food because he didn't want all of his regular food. He did like the kitten food, though. We should have blood work results back today and I will update then.

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228

Good luck with the vet today...DH knows of your concern so hopefully he will get some answers form the vet. (some lumps cannot be aspirated though, right? I know I have one and nothing can be done about it) but hopefully you will get some good answers today...
Meanwhile, that's a nice low yellow...glad he liked the kitten food...we won't spread it around though...a big hunk of a guy eating kitty food??? LOL...whatever works, right? Good luck today...will look for your updates...

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228

sometimes you got to give them whatever they'll eat, even kitten food. I hope you get some solid answers from the vet, I totally understand your stress. Hope all is well, sending good vet vines for Blackie

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288

Its a good thing Blackie's numbers aren't low today, cuz DH said he wouldn't eat at the +3. They did get the blood at the vet and they'll call me with the results later today. I'll go home early for lunch and see if I can get him to eat. I suspect he's not eating because he hasn't had fluids in so long.

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288

Is there a reason you aren't giving the fluids? Did the vet aspirate the lump? I've thought of kitten food, actually it is higher protein so is probably good for all cats.

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288

Hope you get good results and maybe some answers from the vet. And Blackie, sweetie, eat something for the beans, it makes them feel so much better.

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288

We haven't given fluids since Thursday morning because of the lump on Blackie's back. We thought that it was unabsorbed fluids. Now I don't know what it was. I think the bloodwork will tell us that we need to go back on the fluids. Blackie was feeling and looking so good yesterday, but today he seems like he doesn't feel good.

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288 +5.5 264 vet rpt

Bloodwork results are almost as bad as when Blackie crashed in June.
BUN 61 (25-45) HI
Creatinine 3.5 (.5 - 2.0) HI
Phosphorus, potassium and calcium were close to what they were last time.

In spite of the fact that the vet and my CRF group said I should stop fluids, I am very sorry I did. This really shows how much Blackie needs them. I will be starting them again tonight and hope that we get Blackie turned around quickly. He didn't eat very much on his own at lunch and I gave him one syringe of kitten food. He wouldn't touch the baby food I tried. Hopefully he'll start eating again tonight.

The vet said that he thought the lump was smaller than yesterday. He said it should be gone within a week. When I asked what he thought it was he said "fibrous reaction to fluids". I don't know what that lump is, but I want it gone. cat(2)_steam

Hey Ele

I know you aren't happy with those numbers but they really aren't that bad. (BTW...yes...same CRF group...Marjorie and Teddi but I don't post often either). Squids can really help them feel better and bring the numbers down a bit so I'm glad you're going to start them up again. Teddi was at those numbers in April and now she is just on the high side of normal (75mls LRS EOD). Do you use Azodyl? I haven't used it but I know alot of the CRF folks use/like it. Also...can't remember but do you give him methylcobalamin/folic acid? I started giving that to Teddi and her appetite (not bad) picked up and she looks great...has more energy. You may already be doing all those things, tho. I have no clue on what the vet said about the lump....odd. Do you vaccinate and if so, where do they give Blackie the shots? I sure hope he starts eating...pls keep us posted. BE GONE LUMP!!!!

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288 +5.5 264 vet rpt

Thanks for the questions, Marjorie. We have been using Azodyl for more than a year. I don't think its helping and I'll stop as soon as I'm out. I also give Methylcobalmine and Renal Essentials which has other B vitamins and other good stuff. And aluminum hydroxide (phos binder), potassium and Miralax. He's also on Calcitriol, but only for the last few months. I know its a long list of stuff that he gets - our kitchen counter looks like a pharmacy. Blackie hasn't been vaccinated in several years. Both our old and new vet thought it was a risk that wasn't necessary. Thanks for the good thoughts.

Oh Ele, I'm just now getting caught up and read about Blackie's lump and test results. I sure hope that the lump will just go away. If it came on so quickly, I think it should go away just as quickly. Anyway, a lovely bouquet of healing, "lets-eat-now" vines is heading Blackie's way this afternoon. Once you begin the fluids again, he'll begin to feel better, I'm sure.
Feel better, Blackie!
Many hugs,
Ella
p.s. I love Blackie's new avatar picture.

Ele...thanks for responding to my question. If I have a feeling about something (waiting until +7) and someone with experience reinforces it, then I go with it. Mike is watching her closely.

So...you have all the bases covered and I should have known you've probably been doing the CRF longer than I have. It's been awhile since I looked at Blackie's profile and it would have saved you listing the pharmacy   . I haven't used Azodyl on Teddi. I used it on Max and it never helped him but the dosing is a pain isn't it...one hour before meals, shouldn't open but can blah blah blah. The calcitriol takes a lot of monitoring upfront, right? I really hope the fluids will bring his levels back down but they will at least make him feel better. Tons of healing vines coming his way. Has he eaten yet?

so sorry the test results weren't what you hoped for. I hope the fluids help Blackie feel better. Sending healing vines

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288 +5.5 264 vet rpt

Ele...homie(ga) had to get squids for awhile...and he too developed what his vet called "fibrous reaction to fluids" it disappeared after 9 days...so maybe blackie 's is the same thing..hoping so...it didn't seem to cause any problem for the Home-boy.

healing vines coming your way from us!

Blackie ate some dinner! :-D Not as much as usual, but about 1.5 Tb. And he ate his FD treats while I gave him fluids before his shot. I got totally upset earlier today when he wouldn't even eat the FD treats, cuz he loves them. But now I'm on the upswing of this rollercoaster. :-D This bounce today was a blessing in disguise since Blackie got very little food today.

Celi, Thanks for that info about Homie. I had never heard of that and I was wondering if my vet knew what he was talking about. I will relax a little now.

Glad to hear that Blackie ate dinner. :-D
Sorry about the not so great lab results, at least you know where you stand with respect to chemistry.
Sending more appetite vines to Blackie; his mamabean is determined to not take no for an answer and i have a lot of respect for that! You go girl!

Sending feel better vines to Blackie and nice calming vines for you Ele....I hope that lump goes away...the fluids should absorb into his system soon, right? It will be okay. Hope you guys have a nice night tonight...just rest and have a good one... :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 10/12 Blackie amps 228 +3 288 +5.5 264 pmps 307 vet rpt

I'm glad Celi had some feedback re. the lump. It had to be a relief to know someone else had a similar experience. I hope Blackie has a great response to the fluids.

BTW, you should take a look at our condo this evening in light of your question yesterday about being nervous about numbers when at work.
