Good morning LL,

Yesterday.

I'm going to do a 2 hourly curve today because I'm a bit confused by these last to pre-shot figures being lower than her previous readings. Up till now, Angie's nadir has been early in the cycle. She might be changing things around.

Thanks Elise for pointing out that too little blood can make numbers lower. That could have been the case yesterday - I can't remember. Today was a good one though.

I'm still having trouble knowing when I need to do another test or not. Sometimes it's clear that she's dropping and might go low enough. Last night she may still have been dropping but it wasn't fast, she was still quite high and past or at her usual nadir (+2 to +4). I thought it would be ok. Is that right? Or should I have kept testing regardless?

Thanks again!
Grace

Re: 10/12 Angie amps=247

Good luck with the curve today. That's always good for learning what Angie is doing. Does she get a food spike? If her +2 last night was a food spike, it probably would have been a good idea to get one more test just to make sure she was surfing. If she doesn't get a food spike, the +2 would have been enough in my opinion. As you get more data, you'll get an idea of whether she's going up or down and you need to get more tests in.

Re: 10/12 Angie amps=247 +2=281 +4=221 +7=193

Hi Carla,

She doesn't usually get much of a food spike - the carbs in her food come from less than 1% liver so overall it would be well under 1% carbs. However, she also has an early nardir. Today she's proving that wrong so maybe she does get a food spike too?

Thanks for the visit again and for the help on when to keep testing. I can see that you are right, after seeing how late her nardir is or will be today.

Grace

Hi Grace ~O) ~O) ~O)

I hope your curve went well. Mannie was always shifting his nadir. Initially it was at +7, then it was +4, then back to +5.5/6... I used to test at +2, as it would tell me if I needed to test more frequently or not. When that was down I'd get a +4, unless it was really down, then a +3. If it was up, then maybe a +5/6. I always liked to get a +11 too, so at shot time I could tell if he was headed up or down. ALot depended on that I saw at PS, +2, +11. I kinda went from there. Mannie was well known for his +2 food spikes, so I really had to be sure to get soething somewhere in the +5/6 range just to amke sure he hadn't taken a dive, which he often did. He was such a roller coaster kitty.

Hope your day was a good one!

Michelle - you've made my 2 am!!! Thanks so much for this. I've been feeling so confused about when to test and feeling like I shouldn't ever sleep! I'm going to try out you plan and see how it goes. Her nadir was at +9 today (+3 her last two times on insulin) so I like the way the +11 and the +2 can help me plan when I sleep. I'm lucky that my life is flexible enough to try and sleep at different times. I just need to get enough in, otherwise I just don't wake up, like this evening between pmps and +5.

She isn't dropping rapidly any more and I have to get up in less than 5 hours so I'm going btb.

Good night everyone

Hi Grace -I hope it helps. It worked for us, once I figured out his patterns, his tendencies, like the food spike at +2. My fav test was that +11. it really was a very telling test, as once PS rolled around, and if that was down I knew we were in for a ride, and would test more frequently until I saw what he had planned. I so understand on the sleep thing. I was able to finally get a set pattern for that too, and adjusted his shot time to that it all would fit. I worked when this was all going on, so that made day testing difficult. anywyas - I worked from 7-3, so shot time was at 4, that would give me about 5 hours during the PM cycle to see what he was doing, and go from there. Mornings were tough. I'd get the +11, the PS, and that +2. I'd often leave food for him, hoping the other kitties wouldn't get it. lol! I had a timed feeder for during the day, which he initially took to, eventually abandoned as I found out he was letting the others eat that too. Silly cat!

anywyas - good luck! have a great day too.
