Olive's doing great, just need to watch her since she's 118+6 and still has a while to drop. The problem is with Cindy. Evidently the new thyroid meds (Methimazole) is making her sick. Now she won't eat at all, despite her teeth issues. She has snubbed her nose at food this entire day, threw up 1 1/2 hours after the pill and has just been laying. I did some reading up on the thyroid med and one of the side effects is lack of appetite and throwing up. Just great! She's already skinny as a rail and the meds cause a lack of appetite on top of it?! I'm going to call her vet first thing in the morning. I just ran to Petsmart to buy some Forti Flora as Dr. P said it worked as an appetite stimulant. I put some in her food and forced about a tsp or two into her. I'm hoping she'll want to eat something on her own in a bit. She's not the type of cat who will let you do hands on things, so she's running from me, hissing, and tries to bite. I've not read to many positives on the med so I've opted to try the holistic approach and see what happens. I've ordered some herbals that have gotten some great reviews through a vet/holistic site. I will start her on it as soon as it arrives this week and plan on pulling her off the prescribed meds while I give the herbs on a 2-3 week trial. That's about the point many people say they start noticing a change. But I'm not just going into it blindly. I will let the vet know of this trial phase and I plan to continue with Cindy's labs through the process to ensure if the herbs are working or not. Many people have done the same and the proof of progress is in the "pudding" at lab rechecks. We can't afford the $2200 procedure that supposedly cures hyperthyroidism and if the meds make her sick, what other choice do we have but to try an alternative route. She can't have the dental surgery until her thyroid is working normally, so we've got to do "something" and fast.

I'll update on Olive as time allows. The girls are really making this mom exhausted!

Nice slide for Olive today. I've read that a lot of the time the initial dose the vet gives for hyperT is too high for the cat and needs to be adjusted. You might want to ask the vet about cutting the pills in half and giving a lesser dose. I hope Cindy feels better soon. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug:

Thank you for the prayers! I'll enquire about that. She's getting half a pill right now twice a day and it's really throwing her for a loop. I wonder if half of that would work better.
If the oral med makes Cindy sick try the ear gel which usually doesn’t.
I'm trying to avoid the ear gel because Cindy HATES her ears to be touched. I don't even see it possible to be able to use the gel quite frankly. Is there any other kind of hyperT med out there? Any of them actually SAFE for her organs long term?
Nice slide for Olive today.
I know...it's been so nice! :)

No other one that I know of for cats. It takes just a few seconds to rub it on the inside of her ear. You have to use gloves.

Does it absorb completely into the skin? I ask because Cindy is just like Olive and rubs her head on everything and I don't want to hurt Olive if Olive goes in behind her and rubs the same thing.

You will have to ask others. I’ve never had a hyper-t cat. I thought few might be so read up on it.

Look at Olive clearing that bounce so quickly! What a nice cycle, Robyn :bighug: I hope Cindy feels better soon
Today has definitely been a nice day for Olive!
Who is this flat blue cat?
She kept me in absolute awe in the blue all day. She's going up on the PM cycle so she's either bouncing now from today's ocean or I gave a fur shot, which I didn't think I did.
Cindy has kept me busy today because she's been so sick and simply not eating. It was about an hour before her med was due when she seemed to snap out of it and she actually ate some food on her own! Then she played for a bit before she napped. It was so nice to see. I can't wait to talk to the doc tomorrow and see what he says. I'm glad she at least got some food in her before the next pill kicked in.
