Yesterday

Thought we were clearing the bounce this morning and then Bell took off like a rocket. I am hoping this is what Wendy described yesterday, where bounces go low, then high again before fully breaking.

But I'm concerned about such a high number. I have no experience with number in the 400s, let alone 500s. Bell's baseline before insulin was ~250. In the past few weeks she has been spiking into the 300s, which is new for her. Just want to check in and ask if I need to be concerned about how high this bounce is, or if I just need to wait it out. I'm going to try and get urine ketones if I can catch her today.

Edit: She is acting like herself, so I don't really see any signs of distress.

Hi Seth,

I'm sorry Bell is so high and I know this kind of worries. Happy she is acting normal and doesn't seem to be in pain or distress. So I really hope it is just a bounce and hope she goes down gently tonight. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much, Heike. I just saw your post about Binie and I’m really sorry about the stress your way. You’ve had to deal with these super high numbers too :(. Hang in there, Heike. I hope those antibiotics take care of Binie’s UTI.

Thank you, Elise. So are these super high numbers not harmful to Bell in the short term? I get that if she was consistently at them it would be bad, but should I not be worried if she goes really high for a couple cycles on a bounce? Sorry if that is a dumb question, I was just really concerned when I saw a reading over 500. I am used to low 300s being her max.

I asked Neko's IM vet about high numbers and he told me that short periods of time in them are not harmful. Good that you are on top of ketones testing.

It is possible she went lower than 103 between +5.5 last night and AMPS.

That's a good point, Wendy. I was assuming a decline from the 144 @ 5.5 to the 103 at AMPS, but it very well could have been a low nadir in between (if only i didn't need sleep...). She is still floating along in the mid 300s now. Unless she really drops tomorrow morning, I am planning to increase back to 2.5 units, unless anyone here disagrees with that decision. Got another ketone test before bed and it is still negative.
