Hmm. A bit of a bounce, I'm going to give him his shot right away. He's not interested in eating.

AND HE JUST VOMITED. Food and hairball. He has never shed before, this year he is shedding a lot and this is his second hairball.

ALSO just had a big poop. About 3/4 solid, stinky. In box, though.

Now he's eating.

I wonder if his stomach was upset from all those pricks last night? And then again this morning?

Okay he's eating quite well, I'm about to give him his shot when he finishes.

As long as he's eating he should be fine. I've had cats throw up a hairball and go right back to eating like nothing happened.

Thanks, any worry about the 529? Eating raises BG..... almost ready for shot.

Oh, and he was so hungry he ate the pork chunks with the prednisilone inside. That raises BG also.

Done eating, time for shot.

Worried mom! We've never had a black number before!

Nothing special. Bounce from those beautiful greens last night. This the time to get a nap, maybe errands done, pokie break for Squeaky. Get a test around +4 and if still up, take advantage of it.

Okay thanks for putting my mind at ease.

OMG I guess until he goes into remission, I don't have a life huh.

Hi Jan - nice surf last night! Once you have your question answered - mind changing your title back to just your AMPS and daytime BG readings? helps clean up the board so people scanning the board see who has a new question. And of course if you have a new question, you just edit your title for the new question :) Have a great day!

Got it! A little slow but I am remembering to do this myself now. Thanks and I appreciate your encouragement!!!

Wow, just took a +4. First reading came out as "HI" ... instruction manual said test again. Then got E13 - not enough blood. Well there was enough. Third reading came at 526. Only a little less than 4 hours ago.

We did have a nice time outdoors for a while and Squeaky got cheered up.

Also I tested his urine for ketones and they were normal.

ANY CAUSE FOR CONCERN HERE? Any action needed? Thanks.

Yo Squeaky!!.....step away from the trampoline!! No bouncing in the house!!

Squeaky just vomited again, second time today. First time I could blame it on a hairball. This second time, he vomited everything he ate all day long, all intact. Looks like 3/4 of a cup of food, undigested raw pork pieces. Could this be related to the high numbers? What, if anything, do I need to do?

Examining the vomitus, there was some grass that he ate when we went outside today, plus some hair. He's shedding this season..... weird. He NEVER sheds, spring or fall. Has never had a hairball before this week.

Guess I better give him some more food. And I got the brush out, will start brushing him.

Cats will eat grass because it will make them throw up. It's kind of "self-medicating".

Makes me wonder if he was still nauseous from the hairball so ate a bunch of grass to try to make himself feel better.

I would start with a +2 to see which way Squeaky wants to go tonight :)

What do you think about his two vomits today? In the morning, a vomit, hairball. Then, he ate everything in sight this afternoon and then vomited it up. With grass and hair. Think he is upset about all these darn needles......, nauseated and I should give him some cerenia? Think he vomited up the prednisilone and therefore, his IBD is acting up? Do something or do nothing?

I don’t think it’s from the testing. I am not experienced at IBD, so not sure what a flare would present like.

Could be the hairball? Did squeaky keep down his Preshot meal?

Also: people are telling me, food with carbs. In the past, taking carbs out of the diet made his IBD much better. And one day I gave him a little catnip -- plant matter, a carb. Immediate diarrhea.

What kind of carbs are appropriate? Let's say I need to give him some baby food. People are saying the little bit of cornstarch is not enough carb to affect blood sugar. Then what ones are good? I dehydrate foods and have all kinds of vegetable powders that I could add to the baby food. Like what would you recommend. Zucchini powder? Spinach powder? Pumpkin powder? Cucumber powder? None of those things, do cats actually eat.

I just mean the testing, upsetting him. And therefore making him nauseated and vomit. I often feel nauseated when I'm upset about something, although I don't vomit.

I would say he didn't eat a whole lot if I remember correctly. It came out with the hairball. If I remember correctly.

I think IBD is vomiting and diarrhea.

I’ll put the question to you...what would you like to do?

(if it were me, I would feed a nice snack, and I would test in a few hrs) It was a drop, but not a huge one.

I hear lots of members drink a big glass of water before bed, so they have to get up in the night...and since they are up...might as well grab a test :p

I could feed a snack, and set the alarm for 2 hours what do you think?

Snack of 12 pieces raw pork has been fed. Alarm will be set for 1:10 for +4..

Catnip is actually fine for a diabetic. While yes it's officially a plant, the amount of carbs is pretty much zero and there shouldn't be any reason it would cause diarrhea. I suppose anything is possible, but I'd really doubt if the reason for the diarrhea was the catnip. I'd blame a virus of some kind before I'd blame catnip.

you're right...cat's don't eat those so why would you put them into baby food? I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. The only time we usually suggest using baby food is after a dental (when kitty's mouth is sore) or to tempt a kitty that's not eating their cat food (because it's better they eat something) but baby food isn't a complete diet for cats.

I think Wendy's Neko was sensitive to the wheat gluton that was in the "gravy" part of the Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers which is why she didn't use it. If a cat's got food sensitivities or allergies, they can have horrible diarrhea if they eat them (as well as vomiting or scratching)

Then, he ate everything in sight this afternoon and then vomited it up.

If he ate too much or too fast, that's enough to cause vomiting too. Many cats are "scarf and barfers" if they eat too quickly or too much

I could feed a snack, and set the alarm for 2 hours what do you think?

Good thinking!
