Good Morning, Everyone,

Not a great start to the day: my cartridge of Lev. rolled off the counter and cracked. This is particularly unfortunate since it is no longer possible for those of us in the US to order insulin from Canadian online pharmacies (see the most recent posts in this thread: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=49608).

Anyway, the shot went OK (the accident with the insulin cartridge happened after I had drawn the dose), and Rusty enjoyed his breakfast of Wellness turkey. When I was in Potsdam yesterday I looked at the foods they stock at the Agway, but their stock is limited and I didn't see anything I was interested in trying. So we will stick with Wellness Turkey and Wellness Chicken, and, of course, FF T&G.

After a beautiful fall day yesterday, the weather has turned dark and windy with rain on the way. A group of us was supposed to go on a bike ride today, but it has been postponed until tomorrow, when the weather is supposed to improve some. I need to go grocery shopping, so I will do that today.

Thanks to everyone who visited us during our very busy holiday weekend.

major BUMMER on the lev - i hope it wasn't a new vial..... :sad: Another bummer on the inviolability from Canada. wow - and unfortunate!

Rusty - back to the green lagoon for you?

Our weather is turning too.... rains by FR, well through the weekend. oh well, knew our good weather for the past couple of months had to end soon. This is the soggy PNW after all. Sorry you had to postpone your ride today - I hope you can go tomorrow. Here's to better weather!

Yep, hard luck: the Lev. cartridge was almost full (began using it in late September). Fortunately I have 2 cartridges left and also a Flexpen. I still haven't returned the locally-bought Flexpen that smells of Lev. (a seep or a leak?), but plan to do so this week.

That's gotta be frustrating. I've been worried mine would peter out before we stop using it. We might make it unless Murphy

So sorry for the loss of the Lev but maybe it's a sign? Rust is planning something up his sleeves! :lol: Think of it this way, you'll be happy for whole week, I promise! :lol:

Hi guys .. Oh man, sorry to hear about the cartridge mishap! I'm glad you have back up already at your home .. This is a nice blue start to the day, wonder if rusty has intentions of seeing green later on? Good luck with your bike ride tomorrow, hope the weather holds out for you .. have a great day guys!

Morning Ella, and bummer on the cracked cartridge. Glad it happened after Rusty's dose though and you have two left. Glad you found some foods that Rusty likes. That is neat with the FF T&G and only 3 carbs. For some reason I thought it had more. I hope the weather will be nice for your bike ride tomorrow. Have a wonderful day.

Hi Rusty lets see green today and bummer on not being able to order from canada anymore I was just looking into this last week before I bought Do Lous Lev at walgreens it was 106 for a vial which was cheaper then his lantus was that I get also at walgreens now.

How horrible about your lev rolling off the counter and cracking, and you can't order from Canada anymore. How much would a pack of 5 cartridges cost down there? Up here i buy from the pharmacy down the street and its $115. I haven't shopped around at all for lev, i'm sure it would be cheaper from Costco, but i really dislike going to Costco, its always so crazy there.

Nice start for the Russ man, bring it into greens soon Rusty.

Rusty decided to go up, not his usual down at +5. Maybe it was a partial fur shot this morning (he pulled away as I was withdrawing the needle, but I was sure at the time that it all went in). Or maybe he was in the process of bouncing and just kept on. He is hard to predict lately. I don't know what happened to my steady, steady Rusty. He shows no signs of being sick.

Thanks, everyone, for your commiseration about the broken Lev. cartridge. I was paying US $170 at CanadaDrugsOnline for a 5-pack of cartridges. Here in the US cartridges are not available, only Flexpens and vials. My local Kinney's pharmacy sells single pens for $47. We don't live anywhere near a Costco, but lots of folks on the board say that Costco is the cheapest.

Got to go shopping now. bbl,

Hmmm, wrong way Rusty! Don't go looking for Tess she'll be back down when she's feeling better. She does say that your radiator sounds awfully nice, can she come for a visit and warm her tummy?

Bummer in the Lev! :evil: Wow, Tracy that is a low price. It might almost be worth a trip to Canada for you Ella. You are close!

@ Ann: In fact I am going to Canada tomorrow: to the Canadian side of the border at Lacolle, where there is a rail-to-trail bike path. We are going to ride on it and then return home. I doubt that I'll be able to buy insulin!! But I'll certainly keep my eyes open for a pharmacy.

Rusty is cruising in yellow. I opened a new Lev. cartridge to replace the one that broke and discovered that I had 3 cartridges left in the box, not 2. This is good! I debated whether I should go back to the Flexpen that smells a little of Lev., but decided against it. It's not worth it! I'm going to try to return it (I bought it in April, as a back-up, so I'm not sure that they will take it back, even though I only opened it on 25 September).

Watching the Yankees-Orioles game (and, Mets fan that I am, rooting for the Orioles!!). (Hatred of the Yankees goes back to my childhood, when they always beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in the World Series. Old wounds still smart!)

I hope Rusty comes back down for you soon. Sorry to hear about the dropped cartridge. At least you had some extras.

Hi Ella. How awful to have lost that cartridge. I was just pricing the Flexpens around here, yesterday. $216 was the cheapest I found so far. I have one left, so better get on it again. I've been paying 232 for the box of 5.
There's no costco around here either.

I hope you can get your bike ride in tomorrow. They are talking weather warmup, and sun here, too.

You know i was going to suggest you make an insulin run to Canada, would you be allowed to do it? Those are crazy prices for lev!!!! Up here all we get are the pen cartridges, when Leo was a big gulper (at 19 units) I looked for lev vials but was told by the pharmacist that up here lev doesn't come in vials.

Good grief how do human diabetics afford insulin down there when the price is so high?
 
Ha, that's a good question Tracy! I think that most diabetics have insurance that pays for their insulin. But still, it is a lot of money; and you have to take into consideration that many diabetics are on much larger doses than our cats.
 
Got our new insulin when the prices went up from HealthWarehouse.com, they were the best for lantus..
It is a bummer that they have to get the insulins from us companies now! Mine went up too.
Hope you can get from Canada...
Sorry about the awful weather..the one thing we cant control..Maybe Tomorrow.
