We are straggling along. The pepcid & metronidazole seem to be helping his worsened IBD, but he just had some barfing this A.M. so clearly it's not an A+. His #s are running higher too - threw his first 300+ in ages last night, so now we are back to BID and up to 1.2u (going to 1.4 tomorrow if #s don't come down by morning) to try to get things back under control. At least it's not a case of cancer triggering a sad OTJ, so that's one less thing to cry over.

My next step is to try switching him to Royal Canin Duck (ewwwww) and see if the food change helps. I think it will send his BGs higher, but oh well. So far food changes have usually given him another decent year, so if it isn't cancer yet, that's my thinking. If that doesn't help, step after that is Leukeran, which I can't really afford, but hoping my financial picture might improve by the time I have to make a hard decision.

Good news is he didn't throw up 4 out of the past 5 days, and really has seemed pretty well overall, considering. YAY!!!!!!! Last week I had ditched the pepcid & metro when he threw up, thinking they weren't helping, and then he started to throw up every day after that. So when I resumed the meds that stopped, and now I guess we're on the every-few-days-I'll-barf schedule. Which is WAY better than the every day schedule! He's chowing down right now, so that must mean this morning's Budesonide has kicked in, yippee!!!

Hope everyone is doing ok. Seems like a lot of peeps are struggling right now, but that might be my warped viewpoint, lol, hard to know sometimes if you've got grey-colored glasses on or not. Definitely the rosy-colored ones are packed away in the closet for the moment, but maybe I'll take them out later today & make a party of it.

p.s. I haven't updated his SS in forever, so don't bother...

I was getting chlorambucil/Leukeran from Costco for about $80-$90 for I think 25 2mg pills given once every 4 days. So it worked out to something like $1/day. One does not needs to be a member and they take the AAA discount card. They generally have the best prices on meds.

I think Costco may even be selling pet specific meds now!! I'll be calling on Monday to check if they can get ProZinc. I know we just got adaquan from them.

Hi Joanna,

It's so nice to see an update from you, we miss you here. I'm glad Bix is feeling better and you'll figure out the insulin thing.

How is your new job going?

Sending no barfing vibes to Bix.

Robin

Wow Gator, that is great pricing info, I will look into it if/when the time comes. Somehow I had it in my head it runs like $150/month for 2x week dosing, but maybe I'm remembering wrong (or maybe that's just the specialist vets price). Well $1/day gives me hope, yay!

Robin, the new job is awesome for the paycheck, otherwise ok. The people are really nice, but I'd like something I love. LOL, high expectations I guess. ;) And it's only part-time, so though the paycheck is great... it's not great enough. But I'm working on finding some extra work on the side, or another job that would be full-time, so fingers crossed things pick up a bit more soon...

Hi Joanna,
So nice to hear from you! Sorry you and Bix are struggling. Hope there are easier days soon. More and more barf-free ones!!! cat_pet_icon

Hi Joanna! I'm sorry to hear that Bix isn't feeling great, but it sounds like you are doing a good job managing his issues. I hope he's feeling better soon! Hang in there, and don't forget to take care of YOU too! :YMHUG:
