Lucy and Jazzy wanted a condo today.

Lucy wanted to brag a bit. She went to the vet yesterday for her yearly checkup and she has lost a whole pound! She still needs to lose about 3 more pounds, but it's a start. She is much more active and playful at the new house and I think that helps. Bloodwork isn't back yet, and of course she did her usual trick of peeing in the carrier on the way there so they couldn't get a urine sample. She does have a resorptive lesion on one of her canines so it looks like poor Lucy needs a dental and at least one extraction. I was hoping I would have at least one cat that didn't need a dental this year, but oh well.

I had an interesting conversation with the vet, and it actually has me thinking. She was pushing diabetic wet food (I forget which one...). My vet has NEVER pushed for diabetic foods, she usually pushes for EVO 95% for diabetics, so I was confused. She laughed and said that she actually recommends the diabetic wet food as weight loss food because of the relatively high fiber combined with high protein/low carb and lower calorie count than FF/Friskies. Interesting. I have a couple of cans of DM here and I might see if I can get anyone to eat it. Looking at Binky's charts, DM has a little more fiber than the other foods, while M/D has a lot more fiber and lower calories but higher carb. Hmmmm. I have never really liked the prescription foods for their low quality ingredients, but then again Fancy Feast isn't exactly high quality food and it is what they have been eating for a while. It might be worth a try.

Jazzy will be the next one to go to the vet. There is something going on and I can't put my finger on it. She has lost a lot of weight, but she didn't need to lose weight. She's a little odd looking right now - she is 9.5 pounds, she has the big acro potbelly but the rest of her is too thin. Otherwise everything seems fine. Her insulin dose is down to 2.5 units. I'm a little worried, but I don't really know what I'm worried about. Since she is still a foster cat, I have to get permission to take her to the vet, but I have Monday off and I might see if I can get her in then.

The civvies Sammy and Mickey are doing well and having fun. Sammy got a checkup yesterday too, and he is being treated for an ear infection. Otherwise all is well.

Happy Caturday!

Nice update on the furkids, Libby :-D

Interesting info on the food - my vet pushed purina dm also, had to bring her labels of the food I'm giving before she agreed (wellness/EVO/Weruva/tiki/BFF). Who thought picking out cat food could become a full-time job?

Hope you have an enjoyable Caturday!

Hi, great for Lucy losing some weight but sorry about her upcoming dental and toothie extraction. That's never fun for them. I tried the wet DM on Maggie but she didn't like it. She loves the dry DM, but it spikes her bg. What is the M/D. I'm not familiar with it. I hope Jazzy is okay and that you can get her to the Vet soon with that gut feeling that something is going on. Glad Sammy and Mickey are well.

Good morning Libby ~O) ~O) ~O)

I fed Ollie Hills MD for over 6 months. It was the diet change we did before starting insulin (we were flying to FLA the week following his dx).

Ollie had pudding poo the entire time...and it smelled so bad! When I got him back north I found Binky's list and got him off MD....like magic the pudding poo stopped. He lost a lot of weight during that time...almost 5lbs! I just donated his remaining MD to a local shelter.

Hope you have a great day. :-D

wonderful report on the girls and will be curious if the food change ( and if Lucy will eat it) help her weight and hope everything is ok with Jazzy never hurts to get them a checkup when us Beans are in doubt

hi libby! always nice to see you! great news on lucy - although a little porky just makes them more squish/huggable! poor baby on the teeth - that resorption is awful. i had it myself. it's well, awful.

i hope all is ok with jazzy - makes you wonder with her insulin needs changing so much. have you seen that before? sending good thoughts for her.

cat_pet_icon to all four of them!

how are you liking your new place? does it feel like home now?

Oh, my goodness.... Miss Lucy's avatar doesn't nearly do those gorgeous blue eyes justice! Such a sweet video, and a great report! I've never tried the vet foods... our diagnosing vet pushed them, along with a lecture on feeding raw and how wellness, merrick, etc. clearly couldn't be trusted nearly as much as purina or hills. Curiously, she had recommended this site, so I quickly learned some good alternatives! Not sure about the fiber count, but BG Turkey is actually significantly lower in fat and moderately lower in calories than many foods... might be worth a look!

Fingers and paws crossed that her dental goes well, and that you get to the bottom of what may be up with Jazzy! Hope you have a great weekend!

What a sweet video!! Everytime I see something like that, I feel I haven't done right by Champ...I should have gotten him a companion long ago. I just always felt like I was enough, though I certainly will not groom him with my tongue!!

I never knew an acro cat could be on as low a dose as Jazzy. Is this a usual thing? I just saw a video over in health of an FDMB member who's acro cat made her local news. In the video, which was the newscast, she was talking about how big her cat's head and feet were, yet Champ's look bigger than that. I just never thought of it as being abnormal in a cat who's so big all over. I've never even considered getting Champ tested because his insulin needs are much lower than I would think would indicate acromegaly. Now I'm not so sure!! I'd love to hear your opinion.

It's so nice to see a condo from you!!

Hi Libby and crew,
I hope Lucy doesn't have to have an extraction, and I hope Jazzy's report will turn out fine.
Stu loved DM dry, but wouldn't touch the DM wet. I wound up donating it to a shelter, too. Rusty only eats Wellness Turkey (and , at bedtime, a tiny snack of FF T&G--his food of choice if I would serve it all the time).

That video is terrific. Glad to hear that your new house is working out so well.

Have a good week, and thanks for all your help on the board,

Ella & Rusty

Happy Caturday Libby and furbabies. That is a darling video. The Romeo and Juilet of your house? It's wonderful that you found a place that suits Lucy. Great job. Good luck with Lucy's dental and sending positive thoughts for Jazzy. It's great to see you. I also hope your job is starting to settle down for you.

That video made my night. I would love for that kind of a bond with mine but I don't think it will ever happen.

Regarding the weight loss. Is Jazzy eating enough? When Maverick had FHL - prior to knowing what I was dealing with. He had lost a lot of weight and his sides stuck out. He looked very odd.

Hi Libby. Loved the video. I flipped through your pictures after watching the video and have a question....What is it with the 'food art'? Which cat does this and have you figured out why? It looks like anything can be used for this type of art project! Can't say I've ever seen anything quite like it before. Very funny!

Hey Libby!!!

Sorry to hear Lucy needs a dental but congrats on the weight loss for her. She is so gorgeous...LOVE the video...they DO love each other.

I will hope that all is well with Jazzy. Please keep us posted on whether she has to go to the vet.
