He's plotting with this flat yellow business---insomnia led to some decent overnight tests so it looks like he is just playing me for a fool with his "I go low at night when you sleep so I don't need a dose increase" BS. He has today to get his act together or tomorrow, it's back to 8u. I'm not having this blood ketone business-those strips are too expensive to be testing with every day, and I don't have the $ to drag his :spam: to the vet for sub-q fluids and the works. Yes, I'm crabby; I actually feel bad for my co-workers because the coffee is not strong enough today and my patience is non-existent. :coffee:

On a happy note- a 2 kitten litter that I ended up with courtesy of a pregnant rescue a few years ago turns 6 today----so, I get to visit them later this evening and sing them happy birthday. :cat::joyful: Picture spam below

CHRISTINE - THEY'RE SO CUTE! Torties are my favorite, and momma is a beauty. But also a calico baby? With a gray that has socks? Be still my heart. Please give them a smooch and some scritches for me. ❤️❤️❤️

Does Jack have a history of DKA? Or does he just show small amounts of blood ketones occasionally (not sure they’d even show up in urine??). I’ve always been told anything under 2.4 is nothing to worry about. I might have to blow a few ketone test strips just to see whether my non-diabetics ever show ketone readings (for “science”, lol, since my ketone strips will likely expire before I need them again).

I’m wondering if the flat yellows will lead to a more active cycle (sometimes it’s a clue that one is coming). It’s nice he’s hitting at least some greens on this dose, but with the BG bouncing around it’s not likely going to be every night (of course we have insomnia on the nights they don’t drop to green).

I don’t generally give dosing advice, but maybe don’t make a decision about an increase just yet, especially when you’re having a cranky, frustrating day. :bighug: Maybe he’ll surprise you and actually throw you a nice number. Fingers crossed.

Yes, Jack loves to hang around in the yellow zone before doing something---that's why I joke that he is 'plotting'....he did take himself up to 304 before getting on the roller coaster today 10/2---he's all over the place. Considering he did get to the 70's I'm not changing the dose any time before the weekend, partly because of the number, partly because of my work schedule.

He does not have a history of DKA, and no matter what his BG is, I never see anything on the blood ketone monitor lower than 0.2 The vet claims some 'normal' cats naturally show ketones, so that reading of 0.2 is not a concern. When Jack was first diagnosed he was seeing BG's in the 500s and ketones over 1.5 on the blood meter. He will not let me test his urine, and I have no viable way to get a sample, so I'm not sure where the 'worry point' on the blood meter is---I just don't want to end up in the ER with a bigger problem than we already have. That 2.4 number is music to my ears....

THANK YOU for the advice, and support!
