Happy Sunday to all! We have a head-scratcher of a +3 today, but she seems normal otherwise.

Speaking of head-scratchers, though ... Miss Chispa has adopted a very strange habit of lying down in her litterbox these past couple of months. I guess it speaks well of how clean I am keeping it  but honestly ... why??? She never stays long, just goes in, lies down, and chills for a minute or two. She's peeing and pooping normally, so that's not it. I know it's uncomfortable for her to stand for long periods because she doesn't, and I'm hoping the second Solensia shot this week will help. But it really doesn't seem like she's doing this because she is SO uncomfortable that she just HAS to lie down, right then and there. It seems more deliberate than that ... I have seen her go in, lie down, and get out without "going," as if it's just something that she wants to do. Is that possible? Does anyone else's cat do this??

Hi Karen, first of all, she’s adorable and second of all cats do really weird things.
I’ve seen Ivy do that sometimes but usually it’s when she wants to get away from me poking at her in someway, she thinks it’s a place I can’t get to her.
Maybe other people have a different ideas about why Chiapa may be doing this. ;)

Afternoon Karen , maybe she just likes doing this, you said she's peeing and pooping normally so that's good. Maybe she's a little stressed from the move ,
same cat litter ?
See what the vet says when she goes for her solensia shot.
Don't forget to fill in your SS for last night and today .
Check in later :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:

I googled and found this , the one reason they say could be because of stress from a move or different litter , the other reasons don't seem like that's why she's doing it

Hi Karen,
One of our kitties, Yuz man (Mikan's brother) does that from time to time. He looks at me like "so, what are you going to do about it!?"
and of course, I pick him up, dust him and put him back down on the floor, just so that he can go back in it again
But she looks like she's settling in, like in the box house. Is she a box-loving kind of gal? Did you put away all the boxes and crinkle papers?
As long as she is not straining herself for peeing or crying out like she wants to go, no harm done? Just a bit dusty?
Cats do strange things to entertain themselves. Hope there isn't health reasons, just her cattish behavior.

Thank you, Staci! It's reassuring to know that other people's cats do crazy litterbox things too.:joyful::p

Diane, I didn't even think to google it ... I guess it seemed so weird that I didn't have much hope of finding information. Wrong! That was a very good article -- thank you.

She doesn't look stressed to me, but who really knows what a cat finds stressful? There have been enough changes recently to stress anyone out, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.:nailbiting:

Thanks, Kit -- another vote for litterbox as hiding place, okayyy. It seems weird to me, but I am not a cat.:cat:

She had a box in the closet back in DC that she loved. Of course I brought it with us and set it up as soon as we got here -- and of course she has ignored it ever since. I've lined it with every comfy blanket/towel/crinkly paper/bubble wrap under a pajama shirt that I can think of, as well as with nothing, but you know how that goes ... if it wasn't her idea, it's no good.

Diane's article said it was "normal cat behavior," so we can conclude that they are a bunch of weirdos and let it go at that. Thank you all for weighing in on this strange question! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
