She ate a can of food an hour before shot.
Is becoming increasingly difficult to give her pill--and now I am supposed to be giving it 3x/day! The last few times she didn't swallow it, waited till I let go of her, and out it came! One time I got her to eat it in her food, but the next time I tried that she just licked around it. This is phenobarb. I guess if this continues I will have to ask the vet about other forms .

Some meds you can crush & mix with a little water & syringe it in their mouth - I find that a lot easier than pilling. It depends on the med, but you could call your vet & ask if that's ok, if you think it might be easier...

If you can try to get a couple ml of water in after the pill [slowly if possible]. It might help wash it down [and for other reasons it's a good thing too]. I like using a 3 ml syringe for the water part.

Today's numbers:
AMPS 245 .5U
+2.5 158
+4.5 72
+6.75 179
+13 PMPS 364 .5U (and she had not eaten in quite awhile!) I don't know what to make of this rise---unless pain and phenob. causes the BG to rise. She was really struggling again in the late afternoon. Or maybe her body was compensating for the BG 72? Though she has gone a lot lower in the past.

Thanks for your responses. It helps to know you are all thinking of us and know what we are going through.
I asked the vet about crushing the pill, he said it is very bitter and he doubted she would eat the food. I am reluctant to try to syringe water into her mouth. My holding her jaw open seems to exacerbate her symptoms (and, I assume, her pain). The last 2 times I did better with the pill when I made a concerted effort to tip her head up (a little difficult because I am coming at her from behind, but it worked). I am amazed that although she tries to fight me off, she has not hissed or tried to bite me. And I am finding it ironic that she is better off having been declawed, because tho she paws at her jaw, she cannot mutilate herself as I have read other cats do.
