WCR: Zobaline came in the mail yesterday, and I started her on it last night at PMPS feeding time. I only ordered that on the 4th, and it took only 3 days to get here. That was fast! Hoping that this will help with her mobility a bit better.

Off topic: Bubba. Still eating, but the UTI isn't even remotely clearing up. This is the end of the first week of the antibiotics, and I'm beginning to think that he's showing signs of renal failure. I caught him peeing on the wall behind the box, and usually he's squatting to pee. Right to the litter squatting. Earlier this morning, I was watching him peeing, and it wasn't a right-to-the-litter pee, but his hind end was raised a bit. Needless to say, I've got towels (again) behind the boxes. I'm hoping that this is only laziness on his part, but I have a feeling that I know what's really going on.

Question: Can a blood test detect renal or kidney failure?

If that's the case, I'm thinking of getting the vet to do blood work rather than a urinalysis to determine what's going on. We can't afford both tests right now. It's either one or the other. Any thoughts?

MY WISH: For God to help heal the broken hearts of those who lost a beloved pet and/or human... For God to help those ailing make a full and speedy recovery... For everyone to have great #s... For everyone to be OTJ.

Re: 10/08 Blackie AMPS 148 (Blood Work Question For Bubba)

Someone hacked the server again yesterday, so the board was down for most of the day.

Nice numbers for Blackie!

I'm pretty new to kidney issues, but yes, bloodwork will show issues...the BUN, creatinine, and USG (urine specific gravity) are the main clues for CKD. Unfortunately, I do think both BW and the urinalysis are needed to show the complete picture when it comes to kidney issues. Marje is particularly well-versed in these things, but several others here also deal with the issues, too. At Trix's last bloodwork, she showed very early signs of CKD, which is why I changed her fuds to one that is lower in phosphorous.

Have a great day, Angela!!

Re: 10/08 Blackie AMPS 148 (Blood Work Question For Bubba)

Morning Angela ~O) ~O) ~O)

Blackie is looking great - nice blues and greens. :-D

Yes on the BloodWork and the renal issues. It will do as Amy described. My vet will also run an abbreviated version of the BW that will test just the renal values, much cheaper than the full panel. The UA will complete the picture, but I think that if only the BW it will at least give you a heads up. Be well little one.

Enjoy your day today Angela, I hope all goes well.

Blackie is looking good. I hope you can find a way to help Bubba feel better.

Re: 10/08 Blackie AMPS 148 (Blood Work Question For Bubba)

Hi guys .. looking good blackie! I hope the meds will help with her mobility issues too .. No advice from me on the bloodwork/kidney situation, but it sounds like there are plenty of people on here who have had all that done before .. have a great day guys!

Re: 10/08 Blackie AMPS 148 +3 84 (Blood Work Question For Bu

Thank you, ladies. I'll need to see how much both the bw and urinalysis will cost together and go from there.

I just got back from taking our push mower in to find out why it's not starting. DH was wanting to mow last weekend, and it wouldn't start. It's guaranteed to start within 1-2 pulls of the string. It's only 4 months old. Now, we're looking at THAT cost, too. It's always something around here, I tell ya.
