Hi guys!

My kitty Davis will be starting 1 unit of Lantus tomorrow. My vet has been testing his BG over the last few weeks and it has been 474-->313-->210-->315 most recently last week.

I have a pretty erratic work schedule and there will be a few days each week where I can't do a PM test and shot (I do plan to home test, starting tomorrow). My vet said she has seen some kitties respond well to 1 shot of Lantus every 24 hours, which I can definitely do. Has anyone done a schedule like this? I know that one shot every 12 hours is ideal, but is one shot every 24 hours OK? I assume it's better than nothing.... any thoughts or insight?

Welcome Becky & Davis!
It would be great if you could start a Spread sheet that way those of us can help when you need it.
I am not a fan of once daily giving insulin. Is it possible that on the times you can't shoot and monitor that someone would be able to help?
For your information there is a lot of excellent guidance in the sticky's. Since this is all new and by the way that is wonderful that you will be testing at home.
It is really important to test before each shot and even monitor (test) during each cycle that way you will see the pattern for Davis and be able to keep him safe.
We have all been in your shoes, I remember when I first learned about my kitty Fritz I was devastated till I came across this forum!!!!
There are so many caring experienced members here we are one BIG family!!!!

With cats lantus is most effective when given every 12 hours. When not possible we do the best we can. A few times I had to give 18 hour shots. When possible shoot every 12 hours and skip when you have to be away. Folks will help you. A spreadsheet will definitely help. And welcome to the best you nobody ever wants to be at but are so glad to find.
