Re: 1/9 Whiskers AMPS 382 +2 288

Hello,

Our +2 288 wasn't as quick of a drop as yesterdays +2 of 188.

I am hoping she will curve more today instead of dropping so fast. Now we are yellow  .

P.S Whiskers peed on the bathroom tile floor again in the last hour sometime. I will try to call the vet (not sure if they are open on Sunday, but I think so). I will ask about C&S. I am very concerned about recurring UTI's. I am curious to know what the bacteria is, and the possiblity of enterococcus which was mentioned in my condo the other day.

Re: 1/9 Whiskers AMPS 382 +2 288

I just went to the upstairs bathroom and she peed on the tile floor there. She is either a very naughty kitty, or there is something more serious going on  .

Hi, Cheryl & Whiskers.. Happy Sunday to you both.. great job on testing this weekend, I am very proud of you!
I am sorry to hear Whiskers is still urinating outside the litterbox, is is always in the same area? Her scent might be there. Hard to say what is going on, but I am sure it will all get lined out soon, you are a good mom for taking her to the vet & I hope after her meds you begin to see some improvement. She did drop quite a bit on her +2, I hope you both are having an enjoyable day!

Hi Nicole,

Happy Sunday to you too  !

Whiskers didn't come down much from +2 288 to +4 240. Strange?

Re: 1/9 Whiskers AMPS 382 +2 288 +4 240

Hi, no it is not strange.. sometimes they even go higher! It takes time to find the right dose, etc. It just does... if you have some extra time sometime.. I encourage you to look at other people's spreadsheets.. it really helps to get an idea of how #s are.. of course, every kitty is different.. but I think you will get an idea of things when you see other's spreadsheets as well ;-)

Re: 1/9 Whiskers AMPS 382 +2 288 +4 240 +7 298 +9 320

The lowest Whiskers got today was 240, while yesterdays low was 137. She get the same food each day, same amount.

Re: 1/9 Whiskers AMPS 382 +2 288 +4 240 +7 298 +9 320

It is real important to remember that each cycle is not going to be the same, this is not predictable. Most of our kitties get the same food everyday..yet yield different #s, we are dealing with living, breathing bodies & not robots. Please look at others spreadsheets.. numbers go up, down & all around.. this is not a sprint to the finish line.. Whiskers is well worth it.. just like all our sugar kittes :YMHUG: You are doing a fabulous job.. but please do not focus on every # & compare cycles back to back or it will drive you *whack* it is the big picture we are looking for.. you will even see some doses raised, lowered only to be raised again.. it is what it is & not logical.. but then it does sometimes make sense.. not always though.

Hi Cheryl,
Kudos for all the testing you got in this weekend! YA! Data is so important to help understand what is going on!

I hope Im not repeating something you already know or understand. Im getting the sense maybe not. And dont worry...for me it took multiple explanations to understand a great deal of things. There is just so much to comprehend. The average person can not possibly do it in a few days, or even weeks (sometimes months or longer, LOL).

Whiskers is likely bouncing from that blue yesterday. Bouncing basically entails BG's going lower than the cat's body is used to. The liver panics, thinking its in danger (even though it may not be), and dumps sugar into the system. That sugar in the system brings the BG's UP. Just like dry food, it can take a while for that to clear out. It can take up to 72hrs sometimes!!! Ack, I know! ohmygod_smile If you look at other's ss, you will see how this happens. A cat drops too fast or lower than its used to....bam, numbers suddenly go up. Its like a yo yo. The more time the cat spends in 'lower'/'healing' numbers, the more its body will learn its okay and hopefully stop bouncing. There are a few things you may be able to do to help the bouncing. For the moment, it might be best to just continue collecting data and let the info sink in. Once you have a better understanding of Whiskers patterns, you can start tweaking things with food.

So, you are doing nothing wrong! I hope you feel better now. Just remember, this is not a race. It is a marathon. Some cats will respond and no longer need insulin. Others wont. Be hopeful with no expectations. The cat and their body are ultimately the one in charge. You are just along for the ride and offering directions when you see fit.

IMHO, I think if you are not seeing improvements with urinary issues in a few more days a culture and sensitivity needs to be done. Basically you will have to redo the whole shabang. :YMSIGH: The challenge here is that Whiskers is currently taking an a/b, which may affect the results. It would be best to speak with your vet about the proper way to approach this. I know you are worried about the recurring UTI. It is concerning, for sure. Its kind of a catch 22. If the cat is dumping glucose into their urine, they can be more prone to the UTI's. Yet, when an infection is present it raises the BG's, continuing to dump glucose. Follow me? I went round and round on this with Latte. She also had a steroid on top of it, so that reduced her ability to fight infections.

Might I suggest something? The best bang for your buck? Set up a consult with the UofM for whiskers. I know money is tight and you are taking care of a lot of special needs animals. However, one consult with them will give you a wealth of information. You also know you can trust them to do EVERYTHING that is right for Whiskers. You also then have access to calling them and consulting on a regular basis. Basically a 2nd opinion when you are unsure if your vet is presenting all the options available for whiskers care. Would you like me to find the name of the last vet Latte saw at the U? He specialized in FD.

I hope you have a good night. Dont worry. Its a lot thrown at you at once. The dust will settle and you will be dancing the sugar dance with ease.

Hi Nicole and Carolyn,

Thanks for the the great advise (pep talks). I really appreciate you experiance.

I think it might be a good idea to go back to the U of M and see the the specialiast in FD. Carolyn if you could get the name of the Dr. you saw that would be great. It is always nice to have someone you know and trust reffered to you. o:-) .

Ms Witty (my nickname for Whiskers) ended up at the same BG # she started the day with 382. cat_pet_icon .
