I'm gobsmacked as the Brits would say, Beth! :D
Good morning, Kris. It was worth the 4am alarm to make sure he ate his +9 snack. Will intro him to auto feeder today to see if he will eat from it . He was sound asleep at 4am( after all, he is a 17 yr old grandpa man:cat:) so I don't know if he would wake himself to go eat from a feeder . Will just have to see....:):bighug::bighug: to your day :bighug::bighug:

When I got down to microdosing, and eventually otj I changed BFG's feeding schedule to 3hrly snacks.

So I'd give him his main meal at ambg and pmbg(approx 3ounces) then
One ounce at +3+6+9.

So you could try dividing his usual meals up in a way that makes sense to you. George is a big cat so the above would probably be too much for a regular sized kitty.

Thank u, thank u.....going to watch today and be ready to micro dose if needed with help, of course, from the Wise Ladies of Lantus :bighug::)

Hi everyone...will post PMBG in about 40 minutes along with summary of day...thinking out loud about possible start micro dose in next day or so...really want input on this from all of you...I want any remission to be strong and definite as possible...at 17, I do not desire him to go through this again in a few months....I know ZERO about this so need your input and thank u in advance...

How comfortable are you about giving micro-doses?

With that 65 in there last night, I'm hesitant to suggest dosing just yet.....it's possible he may need a little extra support but do you think you can give a dose like .1? Have you done any practicing?

That +11 could be influenced by the +9 snack. I'll be interested in seeing what the PMPS is and whether he brings it down. If he doesn't, and you can monitor tonight, it might be time to try that microdose experiment. I like the dose Jill suggested, where you push the plunger all the way in tight, then release it in the pen/vial to vaccuum up a drop. Ditto what Chris said. Practice and see if you get a consistent dose.

Thanks , Chris...this is all the stuff I need you all to help me sort thru because I am clueless....btw PMBG just taken was 98.....what do u mean when u say " a little extra support "??? See Elmo's 1/8 post late in post..Jill had given me food for thot ...her explanation of basically a whiff of Lantus ....I am in no hurry to do anything but so value and need your knowledge and opinion...you were Elmo's angel that late October morning which we will never forget:):bighug:

Wendy, I thot the +9 helped lower the +11... it seemed to this morning but not tonight...

Maybe they meant the +9 snack lowered the PS (at +12).
Hmmmm....that is a good observation, Jo....hadn't thot of that.....this morning it lowered both +11 and AMBG....guess I was expecting same result tonight. But also our boys do tend to run lower at night. Speaking of boys, how is Ozzy the Paws Man ??? And have u all thot of building an ark out there ??? Our daughter lives in SF and said it's been crazy

Yep, I am in no rush...my mind has been rolling around on this all day, waiting on how the +9 did or did not affect and then coming to you all to gather info . Love hearing all views cos I am clueless:rolleyes:o_O

Jill is right.....the first dose I'd try is the "essence of Lantus" dose ....maybe the next time he's over 120 at PS

Push the plunger in HARD and hold it....then put the syringe into the pen and just "let go" of the plunger...it will suck up a tiny dose

I think I'd just hang in there a little longer and practice to get that drop dose down
Thank u, Chris. You have and continue to be a great encourager in this Lantus journey of Elmo's :).
I will be practicing the dose drop . Any advice on anything else to do to help him like timing and number of snacks ??? Thanks for keeping an eye on us !!! Buckle up in case we get this winter nastiness at end of week. Weather people are still not sure but the long lines at grocery store(already !!??)told me the folks are a gettin' ready :).

Oh heck....there's one thing I've learned by living in Misery for over 50 years.....the worse they predict the storm will be, the closer to nothing it will end up being!!...Now if they say "this storm is going to pass us by" or "this one's just going to graze us", THEN I watch out!!

Well with the caveat of ECID, I think I'd try feeding at PS, +3, +6 and +9.......see how it goes

Hah, Misery :joyful::joyful::joyful:....seriously, my plan is to look out the window that day and say" oh, look, it's doing whatever"... was funny today , I really needed to grocery shop but people were there stocking up in earnest. Guess that ice storm 10 years ago still dances in people's heads :nailbiting:

@Chris & China ....Chris , have or do u give China B12?? Do you know if Zobiline( sorry for spelling) has any sugar in it?? I had bought some early on but held up cos holistic vet thot it contained sugar . If no, do u think that would be good to give Elmo for energy ? He still is a bit lethargic:(

No, I've never given China B12 but she's never needed it either....the Zobaline for Diabetic cats is mostly for diabetic neuropathy and is totally fine for our sugarcats.....there's also an injectable B-12 that can help "pump up" cats when they're not feeling well and can increase appetite and energy levels

Your vet might have been thinking of the human Xobaline which does contain a sweetener called xylitol which cats shouldn't have whether they're diabetic or not

They're two different forms of B-12

Zobaline is specifically formulated for diabetic cats so nope! No sugar!! I gave it to Gussie twice a day..he went from being unable to walk, he was on all four hocks and still could only drag himself a step or two and had to stop. His neuropathy resolved and he recovered all of his mobility..it's a wonder pill far as we are concerned! Don't see how it could hurt and might perk him up!
I gave one tablet twice a day.

Thanks, Chris...do u think that might be good for Elmo, a low/go slow dose, for energy? Gotta look thru my vet notes to see what she had advised .

Wow, that is great to hear ! I have upped his thyroid meds in last week to a full 2.5 2x a day...not sure if between that and being off insulin he is a bit sluggish . They love to keep us on our toes and dancing, huh ?!:);)
