Going to recheck in 20 minutes.

Only gave 1.4u at PMPS since he wasn't eating with gusto and only ate half his food, that and gave his shot an hour early to get us back on track.

I'm wondering if the 1.6u getting him down into a good nadir...if this isn't a response to that and his numbers will be unpredictable. Which means I'm somewhat lost on how to dose, if he tests high enough for me to do so this morning.

Argh. Hate stepping on my feet while learning a new dance.

Re: 1/9 AMPS 159 and how to dose

25 minutes later it is 179 with no food intake.

So, it's clearly rising (makes me wonder just how low he went last night...yikes!) but isn't at 200+ yet.

.5u? Feed a higher carb (7 or 8) today?

Will check BG again in 20-30 minutes.

Re: 1/9 AMPS 159 and how to dose

Finally! 207 and now eating food at 7 carbs.

.5u to play it safe or is that too little? Don't want to overshoot as won't be home today (but I can come back a couple of times to check on him).

Suggestions?

Thanks! Was so concerned about the earlier AMPS kind of went in to panic mode.

It's getting harder to tell Poopy's deposits in the litter box from civvie Mia's. And that is SUCH a good thing! :-D

I'll stick with the 1.4u and come back a couple of times to test Poopy today, just to be sure.

Nice numbers. This 1.4-1.5- 1.6 dose seems to be a good one. It always happens that we are waiting for the blues and greens and then when we see them, they make us a little nervous.

Glad Robin was around to urge you back into the 1.4. He has room to go down. He should be okay today. You can leave out some food. And you dealt with the 200 preshot perfectly.

Came home for the +4 at 88. Was planning on coming back for the +6 but think I'll do a run for the +5 just to be sure. They (both cats) only ate about 1/2 the 13oz, can this morning so I left it out. Added a bit of water and Poopy is now snacking (and hopefully will eat more while I'm gone).

Keep your fingers crossed he doesn't drop too low.

Go ahead and breathe, you are doing great.

88 is a nice safe number, it is around a 60% drop from PS which is perfect, although at +4 it is a little early but you fed regular food and he came up nicely.

Thanks, Rob and Sue. I know I'm being a bit needy (at least I think I am) and I really do appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

I just want to be careful not to over do and harm Poopy. He's my love and I would be devastated if I harmed him. I know everyone understands that feeling.

His lack of appetite does concern me (he only ate a bit of the food at the +4, so his +5 really surprised me). He has always had a healthy appetite, even before Dx.

Maybe he's a bit off due to not feeling "normal" with the lower BGs?

(At work so I'll leave it at that. )

You are not being needy, Teresa. Of course you are worried and it does seem like these kitties throw something new at us daily. And it gets especially hard when you have to leave.

Just leave out food (appetite - have you changed to another flavor he might not like as well?) If he goes low, he probably will eat - appetite or not. They seem to instinctively know they need food. He is in good numbers and they are really as scary as the high numbers because they seem more unpredictable.

He is doing fine and so are you. Breathe, honey, breathe.

You're doing a great job, Teresa. Glad you didn't back off on the dose. Many times when I've done that, I lost some momentum..

I want to thank you all...for everything! I know I went into panic mode today, worried Poopy would hypo with me away at work. Don't get me wrong, I do so enjoy seeing green and hope to see more. I think Sue pretty much nailed it for me. When Poopy goes green, I go on high alert. There's not much room for error before he gets into trouble. It's easier to know he'll be alive and well at the end of the day if he's been in the 100-200s. I just need to breathe, because green is where we really do want to be.

On a side note, in my search for a new vet...I found my vets office advocating home testing on their website! How interesting. Wonder if the vet who bit my head off knows of this?????

This is the best and safest place to be both needy and in panic mode because each and every one here has been there and has experienced that, that is probably why we are still here, to pay it forward and thank the people who were here for us when we were in that mode.

Green is good, green is the road to healing. The more time Poopy spends in green the more he is healing.

Just like our kitties we get used to seeing those higher numbers and like our kitty's livers we panic when we start seeing green again.

I work full time too and know how it feels to shoot and leave.
