Skip has only been OTJ for a month. The #@^! company that manufactures By Nature Organic chicken changed the formula and loaded it up with gums which upset her stomach.

Switched her 2 days ago toTiki Cat which supposedly contains just meat plus supplements; but her numbers are up - 124, 149 @-)

Not grabbing a syringe yet but will watch closely.

Gaur gum is used as a thickener. About a decade ago it was used in human diet pills. It trigger numerous digestive issues and was eventually removed from the market.

If Skip was or is allergic, the inflammation caused by the ingredient could be causing the higher BGs. You are on the right track in changing foods and checking labels.

Attie is sensitive as well and we have found our best resource is Nature's Variety.

FWIW, Jill has mentioned that when she has changed Alex's food, she sees a rise in BG numbers for a few days. Hopefully, that's what's going on with Skipper and you'll be able to ride this out.

(((Pat))) you are on top of things & I am thinking of you both.. I hope this is all back on track in no time...

oops, you had me scared there for a sec. yep, i'm totally annoyed by all the "subtle" food changes. kitties notice these. most of the time they're cost-cutting measures but i'd rather pay more for a quality product. wish the companies asked us consumers more before making such changes.

Thank you all for your support and suggestions.
Checked Skipper again tonight and got 154. At least she is still under the renal threshold.

Note to Blue: thanks for the Nature's Variety tip.

Note to Chris: This was not a subtle formula change - they tripled the gum which apparently made the food so sticky that Skip was pawing at her mouth. I didn't discover the formula change until a month after we had gone for an exam and X-rays of the mouth and throat which showed nothing wrong with her.

Pat,

Great detective work! How did you figure out what the problem was? Just curious, because Kitty was having recurrent barfing. I changed his food from FF chicken to FF turkey, and the situation has improved. But as you probably know, FF also had a formula change last year. I share your opinion of the changes these companies make!!

Sending green vines to Skipper.
