Hi there. I usually post about Monty, but just wanted to check in following Molly's annual vet check in today.

Vet reveiwed Molly, she's in generally excellent health for a cat of 11 but flagged a few things:

1. Grade 1 heart murmer
2. Weighs 3.1kg, vet would like to see me get her to 3.5kg

She's not a food motivated cat and will sometimes eat almost nothing, sometimes eat everything. I'm going to get some tasty food toppers for her.

For her heart murmur, the vet said grade 1 is not concerning and is very common. He'd like to review in a year to re-assess. In the meantime I'm to look out for irregular breathing as a warning sign that her heart murmur has worsened. He said we'll do a heart scan if future visits show it's increased in grade or I notice other symptoms.

Anyone has experience with heart murmur? Is there anything I can control with food or drugs or other to make it less likely to be a problem in the future?

There are some heart murmurs that happen just with natural aging. Neko had a grade one murmur that was just that. We chose to get her an echocardiogram, but mostly because she had acromegaly and acrocats are prone to heart issues. It also gave us a baseline for later when she did have heart issues. Her cardio vet said I didn't need to worry about the grade 1 murmur, unless it changed in level or location. I just asked the vet to check her heart every time she went in for something else. No changes were required to diet or medications.

Has Molly also been tested for hyperthyroidism?

She's not been tested for that, but doesn't have the other symptoms associated. I'll ask about Molly when I take Monty for his immunisation boosters next week.
