so here's the latest quilt - made for my youngest daughter who is 19. she picked the fabrics and organized the blocks. somehow she managed to avoid sitting at the sewing machine! i sent it to a professional quilter with a long-arm machine (which means nothing to those of you who don't quilt) who did the quilting. a long-arm can do a lot that you can't possibly do with a home machine - and i have a 1961 Singer Slant-o-matic (i just love to say that) so it's pretty basic.

the second picture here is a detail of the quilting design - the quilter did a fabulous job of it. the quilt pattern is called Milky Way and i asked for a quilting design that looked like wind.

ok, now i don't want this to be a condo just about the quilt, so y'all have to add your own stuff too! anything off topic is good. pics of your cat? awesome! pics of whatever else interests you? super dee dooper!

Julie, that quilt looks like snow and ice to me. It is beautiful.

When I was a child of 10 my Aunt Julie gave me a quilt she made. I still have and I am turning 49 in a month.

Some things one should just cherish.

aw, i love that beth. i only fell in love with quilting maybe 10-15 years ago. i've made 4 for my kids and they all picked the fabrics and patterns. all of those are machine quilted at home except this one. my son picked up these gray skirts last time he was in guatemala (sounds weird, but they were great) and i cut them up and made his quilt out of those plus more fabric. made one for our bed that took some 10 years to finish - mostly because punkin peed on it while it was in progress and i didn't find it for a while. you know how attractive aged pee looks on a project that's not done? if it hadn't been hand-quilted with help from all the women in my family - my mom, sister, sister-in-law and cousin - i'd probably have ditched it. but i used a bleach pen on it, washed it over and over, and soaked it in enzyme cleaners (Biz) until i got the stain out. now it's on our bed. hahaha. permanent reminder of my sweet punkin! little turkey.

thanks linda! it's very relaxing to do. although i have been known to have a tantrum, throw it all down and walk away. in my more immature moments! ;-)

Julie: I think cat pee would lessen my enthusiasm for just about any project. Kudos to you for sticking with it. WOW! Your daughter's quilt is beautiful. I love the colors and the stitching is amazing. I haven't seen a long-arm machine but I can imagine. My mom had a Singer sewing machine too. I don't know what year, maybe before 1961. I was born in 1960 and she had it as long as I can remember. That is a great machine.

Here is the quilt that two of my sisters just finished as a wedding present for us. It's Cathedral Rock in Sedona, AZ. We got married in Vancouver in 2006 and they've been working on it for 4 years. They have entered it in the Paducah Quilt Show, just the photos so far. If it gets accepted, we will have to send it back. nailbite_smile

Love the quilt, Julie  You're so talented  I wish I had some talent kind of like that but then again I have Leroy which means I would spend more time telling him NO and keeping him from eating stuff than actually doing anything ohmygod_smile

Since you asked, here are new pics of my cats :-D

My, what nice big ears for poking  Hopefully I won't ever need to poke them, though.

Leroy's already under the influence of the full moon, which is tomorrow  He's been aggressively chasing and wrestling wth Emma  Emma needless to say doesn't like it and screams and hisses at Leroy

Leroy started off the New Year with a bang - he had another coughing fit caused by his irritated nasopharngyl polyp thing  It didn't seem any different from previous fits so I haven't shown Dr. B the video.

Julie, do Punkin and Anya play with that round circle mat thing with the mouse that runs underneath? I saw it at Petsmart yesterday but didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if it would hold Leroy's or Emma's attention for very long. Actually, I haven't found a toy that holds their attention for any amount of time  They just give me a blank stare and ignore pretty much anything I ever buy. They do like fishing pole toys like Da Bird, anything that is on a long string that can be pulled across the floor and flipped through the air. Surprisingly, neither care for catnip :o

wow, I am super impressed with all the quilting pictures! They are just beautiful .. and of course, they kitty pictures are beautiful too!!

Lovely quilts and kitties!!! Bit Bit is already in the full moon crazy spirit.... even more so than usual! She was a good girl tonight, though... she decided Willie was being boring, so she was my shadow this evening. We cleaned out the fridge, strained homemade veggie stock, made dinner (linguine with carrots, mushrooms, baby bok choy, grape tomatoes, spinach and turkey italian sausage in marinara sauce), took out the trash, and even watched a little tv. She's been a busy little girl!

Sitting looking at a quilt my grandma made me 28 years ago. Wow... never really contemplated how old it is. Was on my bed recently, but just got a thin cotton/linen blanket which is surprisingly warm (heated mattress pad and nice, thick flannel sheets help!). She didn't care too terribly much for me (I was a step grandkid, so didn't really "count") so it isn't really all that intricate of a design, but I am surprisingly fond of it.

poor leroy (what nice big ears for poking!) hahaha - and then i looked at his ears and thought "they are nice and big for poking!" emma looks so very innocent. oh - they don't play too much with that circle toy - well anya does play with it some but punkin just watches. he is pretty interested in watching it, though. more than any other toy.

the dh's step-grandma made us a quilt for a wedding present - and all i could thing was "why oh why is it browns and oranges?" so much work and i absolutely hated the colors. but we used it for years and i still think of her when we pull it out on a guest bed. and colors come around in fashion and i think my kids might even like it.

that quilt is gorgeous, Liz! what a perfect wedding present. i've never done one like that, although i have a stained glass one that's sorta pictorial that i like. i started off doing miniatures, thinking that would be an easy start. but actually, miniatures are hard because you have to be so precise with the measuring and stitching - when your piece is only 1.5" you can't fudge anything. not sure if i've ever taken pics of either the stained glass one or the mini crocus one. might have to do that. the stained glass one i was making for myself, but my mom kept calling it exquisite, so i gave it to her. that one my soul-kitty, TC, barfed on while it was in progress. the crocus mini i kept for myself. i've learned that you should only give hand-made gifts to people who appreciate them - especially something like this that takes a zillion hours to do.

perhaps after my kitties barfing and peeing on my quilts while they are in progress i should grab a clue and put them in a drawer while they are not being worked on!

Thank you, Julie. We love it. It's actually a quilted wall hanging (rather than an actual quilt to put on bed). I have to admit that I chortled reading that TC barfed on the stained glass miniature. Yes, I think you need to keep your projects out of kitty reach, both ends. Reminds me of Zener peeing in my suitcase as I was packing for a trip. Multiple times. I finally got a clue.

heehee i could tell it was a wall hanging. hence the fingers peeking out over the top of the quilt!

it's quite an honor to have a quilt accepted to Paducah. it's like Mecca for quilters. i won't be surprised if it is, though - it looks magnificent. is it machine or hand quilted?

i'd forgotten about TC barfing on that quilt until today - more likely blocked it out! i had it on the sewing machine and i think we were gone somewhere, like for a weekend. that would be back in the days of dry food and leaving the cat inside for the weekend without even blinking. leave enough dry food and they'll be fine, right? ;-) i came home and it was thoroughly dried on and soaked in. delicious! i wanted to shoot my sweet little kitty.

mmmm pee in your suitcase. "hello, i have something to say about you leaving. love, zener"

Yes, that's Anne modeling the wall hanging. If it were a quilt, she would have REALLY long arms.  I think TC and Zener were both being very clear that they were not happy with our absence, but better barf than pee. Pee would be easier for the cat to apply though. :-D
