Jupiter was laying in the litter box... called the vet... they said to give him mirtz and do not give enema til tomorrow morning after hes eaten enough..gave him the mirtz and after a while he ran out to his bowl and ate a whole bunch really quickly. now hes meowing loudly and attacking me////


should i let him eat as much as he wants?


anything i can do to help comfort him

anyone know how long this will affect him like this?

What was the dosage of the mirtz?
I think I'd feed him, but just a little at a time so he doesn't "scarf and barf".
 
Has he ever acted like this before?

Has he calmed down any?
 
I have heard of Mirtazapine being called Meowazpine as it tends to make the cats very vocal and also very affectionate.

I gave it to J.D. a long time ago (1/4 tablet every 3 days), and I didn't like the way it helped him to eat for one and a half days and then I had to wait for another one and one half days before I could give him another one.

Once, when I was on vacation in California with J.D. several years ago, I had given J.D. some mirtz, and I was out in the out building where my parent's computer is, with J.D. and I noticed him twitching and acting agitated. I Googled side effects of Mirtazapine and found this: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?A=2552 Luckily, I had also brought cyproheptadine with me. I did not have to give him any, as his symptoms calmed down in about 5 minutes, but it scared me. I thought his little heart was racing.

I prefer cyproheptadine as you can give it daily, or even BID, as opposed to mirtz which you can only give every 3 days.

I hope he relaxes soon. Just to let you know, he may be extra vocal for about a day and a half.

He is still acted weird and agitated. He follows me around and meows. He wants to be right next to me. He is purring a lot.... and he is no longer being aggressive. I can still tell he is not happy though :sad:
 
When I spoke to someone from oncologists office... they called his oncologist and told me she said he should never get mirtz again. she said its rare that cats act like this on it so he must have a bad reaction to it. They also said he should be back to normal in 24 hours... but thats a really long time... hoping it doesnt take that long

Ask for cypro instead. It can be given more often, as Dyana mentioned.
Bob had both, but the cypro worked better, and didn't agitate him.

Jupe is getting mirtz as an appy stimulant, correct?
 
My GA Linus had a very bad reaction to Mirtz. He was very vocal, started walking backwards, pacing, stood about 5 feet in front of me and peed on the rug. His little body was racing. Vet told me I could give him benedryl (1/2 a pill, I think). It took him hours to calm down. Very upsetting to both of us. Obviously, he never had it again. Hope Jupiter's side effects pass much quicker.

Cypro's worked well for a number of our cats, too. This Mirtz sounds scary, but ai've never heard of it before. Hope Jupe clears it quickly & is back to normal soon.

Thinking of you tonight and hoping that by tomorrow the Mirtz will have worn off and he will be fine.
