1/7 Milo's Curve today; need dosing advice,AMPS is due in 11 hrs.

Hi all,
Finally did a Curve today... I think Milo was a bit stressed as we
had several family members staying for 10 days over the holidays...
Seems his BG readings was a bit higher and his appetite not as good(.Guessing that
this is 'normal' for cats when their routine is changed?)
He is back to being his relaxed self now.
Pervious Curve was done on December 20th/ 2021, And Insulin was increased from 2 Units to 2.25 Units.
Today his Nadir was 171 mg/dL (9.5 mmol/L)
Should i increase his Insulin to 2.5 Units at AMPS tomorrow?
We are getting close to Milo's 1 year anniversary of being diagnosed with Diabetes. (January 28/2021)
A bit disappointing to have made so little 'progress' in controlling his BG...
I may have to try the TR Protocol next? But i am honestly a bit nervous to be dealing with
the very low BG Numbers and even more testing!Any advice is welcome!

Hi Marianna, Milo does need a dose increase to 2.5U.

TR does give you a better chance to get him regulated but it is a more aggressive protocol requiring more testing and handling lower numbers. A cat's normal numbers are 50-100 (2.8-5.5) on a human meter but we get used to higher numbers and find normal numbers too low! :-)

The other option you have is to continue with SLGS but to lower the reduction point a bit - say 70 or 80 so that you can stay at a good dose and see better numbers.

Ok, i will increase to 2.5 Units at AMPS.
I am interested in "continuing with SLGS",but am unsure as what you mean with
"Lower the reduction point' a bit" like 80 or 70 "?(4.4 -3.8 mmol/L)? Can you explain some more please?

OK... Do you mean that i will not automatically reduce his insulin at 90 (5 mmol/L) or below,
But instead reduce if he is 80 or 70 below? / 4.4- 3.8 mmol/L
It's a mindset... so i need to get more comfortable with some lower numbers..

Normally with SLGS, you reduce the dose when the BG drops below 90. SLGS can be customized by experienced caregivers who know how their cat reacts to insulin and food. Some people lower their reduction point a bit if they find that their cat doesn't hold reductions at 90. So instead of reducing the dose when he drops below 90, you can reduce when he drops below 80 or 70. You choose a lower number at which you take reductions.
