Yesterday's Midnight Oil Condo
I'm at it again, I know. I just can't help it. The day flies by so fast and I have no time to sit at the computer until DH goes to bed.
Does Cinco's timing stink or what? He would give me a green number as I'm about to head out the door for Minka's chemo session and lunch in Sac with an old friend.
So I loaded up Otto with 8% and said a prayer. When I got home, Otto was absolutely spotless. For a second I asked myself if I really did put fuds in it!
Cinco was sleeping soundly, obviously none the worse for the day. He's back to flat yellow tonight, now that I'm home to watch him!
He did try to give me heart failure (okay, I'm not sure it was his fault - coulda been mine) tonight when I tested him at +3. The meter just said "Lo". !
It's never said that before. I took a deep breath and put a new strip in it. Second reading - 227. I think I got too much blood on the first one, but holy cow! Don't do that to this old broad! I don't think my ticker can take too many of those!
After days of her not wanting to eat anything I put in front of her, this morning Minka plowed right into her breakfast and ate 2/3 of it, just like that!
The final 1/3 disappeared with a little coaxing. She still is feeling the Mirtz, meowing more than normal. When I picked her up at UCD after her chemo, Dr. S said she was "hollering" at her from her cage, but when Dr. S. picked her up, she started to purr and she purred all through her chemo! Dr. S. told me she is amazed that I have the nicest cats! She repeated - cats plural! She adores Sasha, too.
Minka had her first ultrasound since before starting chemo and it "showed full resolution of the nodules in the right kidney and only a small region of the left kidney that remains abnormal in appearance"! Dr. S. was grinning from ear to ear when she told me this. She said Minka's blood work showed she is a little anemic, but that this is common to cats with lymphoma and they gave her an iron shot. She said her weight is stable from the last visit, and to keep doing what I'm doing. She was very optimistic about Minka's prognosis and said everyone on the team feels really good about how she is doing. I almost cried right there in the waiting room, especially when she made the comment about my cats all being so nice (DH commented that she hadn't met Harvey yet when I told him).
So session number 6 next week, and kidney recheck after session 8.
Sasha was a little reluctant to eat again today. Not sure why. I gave her some Ondansetron, in case it was nausea. She ate better this evening. Harvey is still eating like a horse (as long as it isn't z/d!).
@tiffmaxee, you suggested Cypro or Ondansetron. She's already getting Ond - 2 mg twice a day. They don't like Cypro as well as Mirtz at UCD. She gets 5 mg of Pepcid every day, too.
@Amy&TrixieCat , it is wonderful to have an inhouse IT person, but sometimes he's so busy fixing other people's problems he doesn't have time for mine! His "office" is so full of equipment and wires, and I hate it when I have to call him at work and have him walk me through resetting something. It's funny that he know everything about computers but I have to show him how to work the DVR!
"Since she seemed interested in food after the mirtz yesterday, she may have an aversion to what you were offering. I know how tough it is with the lo phos issue, but maybe - as an experiment - try something that is completely different from what she ever had before...just to test out her appy"
The oncologist suggested the same thing, but I was already doing that. So far I have the most success with FF flavors they used to get. Dr. S. said not to worry about the phos right now - keeping her weight up was more important. Boiled chicken and broth still get a pretty good reaction, too.
Time for me to hit the hay. Home all day tomorrow, so Cinco, you can go ahead and spend the day following Skooter and China and Max around the lagoon!
Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans.
Prayers continue for Minka's chemo buddy (Amy's DF), Lyresa's DF, Lisa's DF and Elise's DM.
