Hi everyone! The new year has me unusually busy so forgive me for not being here much. I have been very caught up in trying to find some at home work and applying for positions as well as continuing to offer support to my friend who is in the midst of this chemo treatment. The longer it goes on, the weaker she gets so we are trying to all pitch in and keep her spirits up. Yesterday she came by and later we went out for dinner with another good friend. She wanted to do something normal so we did. Morgaine loves this friend because she never intrudes on her space but allows Morgaine to approach her. Sometimes Morgaine will sit near her and put her paw on her lap as if to say, "you are okay"! Others try to sweet talk the pussy cat but not this friend. Morgaine prefers the detached approach.
We continue to do well with all things feline. She has been doing some green surfing but the PM cycle makes me nervous so i am now feeding her a small, no carb snack at bedtime so I can sleep and not worry about her. Now that she gets it she expects it! Maybe I shouldn't jinx this but no pee pad action in days. She is using that LB with the regular Dr. Elsey's litter in the blue bag. I am thrilled because it is less pricey. We are back to cuddling in the bed midday. She likes to get her kitty massage and she purrs up a storm. We both missed this contact.
Brief update on freestyle meter: Scott House of Abbott called me and is now replacing the Freestyle with another Precision XTra and strips until he can examine my meters closely. He said that they could not replicate my results with the FS and Precision but wants to explore it further. Meanwhile, I reported to the FDA and saw my endocrinologist this week. I gave him my documentation and he is trying to get my insurance to provide me with a different meter and strips. He had me do a random blood draw for glucose and then test myself at the same time on the Precision to support its accuracy with the lab value. Lab was 95 and Precision was 94. My HbA1c has gone from 5.4 to 6.1 and I used the Precision for half of the time prior to the test. It would have been in the 7 range if I had relied on the FS. For years my A1cs have been in the low 5's so this is another indicator for them to look at. My Dr. is concerned about this as well because the more i keep my BG normal, the fewer the complications. Of course we all know this is important for our kitties as well.
The fact that Abbott is providing me with strips, hundreds of them, and a new Precision meter indicates to me that they are taking my concerns seriously. I will keep you all posted.
Hope all are doing well and healing vines to all in need.
