Is that a word? 'Lantusversary' Well it is now.:p Today is our one year of life altering, twice a day injections of Lantus. Many plans aborted, dinners left early, going home from shopping or errands early as Luci's response to insulin was often dramatic and unexpected. And not to mention the loss of sleep on so many nights! :coffee:

I didn't know it a year ago, but my life was soon to be dictated by timers, clocks and alarms.:arghh: Even making our semi-annual trip from Michigan to Florida and back has a whole new element - when we start and when we stop - is now dictated by the test/feed/shot schedule. When and where we go to dinner - if we go out - is dictated by our Lantus schedule. It's an exhausting 24/7, 365 schedule.o_O

What an amazing transformation this year has been in our lives - who knew? And now looking back - it's been a few (a lot of :p) changes but well worth it to have our Luci with us - she's healthy and happy - and runs and plays and brings us much joy with her antics. :D

We've resigned ourselves that we are here to serve The Queen. We're her peeps and we've learned what our roles are here in the household. Luci reinforced everything yesterday and late into the night last night - how precarious the whole BG monitoring/feeding process can be and kept us on our toes and my DH, Bill - he's been my lifesaver as he allows me to sleep most nights since he's retired and I'm still working - he can stay up quite late - and if needed I set an alarm to get up for a wee-hour check (last night was a case in point). I count my blessings every day - that I able to work from home and that I have a great helper!:joyful: And for all the great folks on this board who've guided, advised and helped us along the way!:bighug::bighug:

In honor of HRH One Year Lantusversary Luci gets a new avatar - on her bed of shells on the lanai - a favorite location for afternoon napping.

Happy Sunday everyone here in L&L Land. Sending prayers and vines to those in need.:bighug::bighug:

And finally, a pic of the Queen - on HRH mouse bed. Note: The Crown  Thank you @Bellasmom Jamie!

I'm only a month in and I can relate to every single word you wrote. The sound of my phone alarm will likely haunt me for the rest of my life o_O

You're making excellent progress on the SS! I hope for a speedy road to remission for Hogan...but then don't we all hope for that? Some of us just take longer to get 'there' than others...:bighug:

Agree 100% lives change a lot!! Don’t know if I’m supposed to say happy lantusversary or not:rolleyes:

Meh, go ahead and say it: Happy Lantusversary! It's hilarious when I was reading your post and when I read "Is that a word?", my first thought was "well it is now," and then I continued reading when you said the exact thing I was thinking. Hahaha, great minds. It's amazing how things change during this FD dance. I would never have imagined changing my whole schedule around one of my cats, but that's exactly what we did. Missed vacations and honeymoons, leaving places early to do a BG check, or not going out at all... I still wouldn't change anything though.

Luci had an absolutely beautiful day yesterday! That I imagine took an awful lot of work to support for your deep-sea diver. ;) We're blessed here with opposite schedules, so I can get the preshots, injections, and daytime numbers (when I'm not working), and Caleb works bar hours, so he gets all the nighttime tests. In a way, I'm glad Luci's taking a break to give you two a breather, but hopefully not too long of one! I hope you all have a wonderful day today!

PS - I love the pic and I adore your new avatar! :bighug:

I can so relate to all you said. I have all Olive's meds, insulin, feeder set up alarms on my phone. Some of the comments I get when they go off are just plain rude.

Love both pictures of HRH.

Agreed! And I commend all those who are somehow able to serve their sugarcats on their own. It takes a village or a whole staff team here at our house to care for Ming.

Happy Lantusversary!:bighug:

Happy Lantusversary! I absolutely LOVE the pic! We all have an amazing bond with our sugar cats. They are a lot of work, but every day is worth it! :cat:

Thank you Jamie!

I hear ya! I'm not sure it's 'a happy' Lantusversary or not myself - it's significant that we've come this far - but it's been a lot of work and upheavel...but we are celebrating the fact that I've been successful so far in not doing more harm than good...Luci feeling just fine...we're the ones who are sleep deprived and running to someone else's schedule...Only the people here on this board understand - everyone else I'm sure thinks I'm a crazy cat lady...:)

Thank you Amanda! I knew when I was writing my thoughts this morning - that everyone on here would understand it perfectly! Luci did have a lovely day yesterday...and we were both working it all day and into the night - I'm not sure I've got what it takes to do that for the long way down the ladder...but only that test will tell...anything to get her to the 'R' would be wonderful! And today was quite a break...nothing but that nasty ole yellow...all day long...she must have been tired of the lagoon???

Thanks Paula! It is crazy to have all these alarms and reminders - but how else could we possibly manage? I hope you're able to ignore those rude comments - I might be inclined to get 'rude' right back at 'em...grrrr....mama would get her back up in a hurry if someone tried to belittle my efforts to save my furbaby... :)

Thank you Jamie!

I'm infamous in my family for going to the extreme to care for our four-legged friends (feline and canine), so coming here, I feel like "I've found my people"! :cat:

Happy Lantusversary! I think the fact that Luci is doing so well definitely calls for a celebration. :)

...and isn't it weird how all of those things that seemed impossible in the beginning (like setting alarms for 3 am or never making dinner plans until after my 8 pm shot time) are now second nature? I'm sure our cats never really imagined that this is how their lives would turn out either, but it is amazing how they not only get used to the routine, but actually start to demand their tests and shots.

Yes it is! Luci actually goes and sits in front of DH at night - he often forgets the time...and she reminds him!:eek: He tells me the next day that if she hadn't been sitting in front of him:eek::eek:huh? The time just gets away from him...as for me?? I live and die by alarms and timers... :cat:

I’m there with you, crazy cat lady:cat::cat::confused::confused:
Bella +3 48! He’s making new friends I think

Happy Lantusversary! It is a huge upheaval to care for our sugar kitties, but we adjust and carry on. Although Luci is not where you hoped she would be, she is happy and healthy and that is what’s really important! You and DH have done a wonderful job caring for her. She looks very healthy ( and maybe a little mischievous) in her pics!

OOH, A first Lantusversary! Here's to health and happiness, even--especially-- when dealing with FD!
I love the picture. It's amazing how much Queen Luci looks like our Stu, even to the white moustache on only one side.

:):) Keep smiling!

Sometimes I do get in their face. Most times I just say it's time for my child's medicine (I don't mention its a cat) gotta call dad to remind him. Then if they are bold enough to ask what's wrong, I say she has a brain tumor and that's shuts them right up.

Happy Lantusversary!
I agree that this is a cause for celebration because Luci is happy and healthy, despite the FD. Love the new avatar, and love that Luci goes out onto the lanai. Bailey has gone up to the sliding glass door and looked out. That's enough adventure for her.

Bailey's FD has definitely changed our lives, but I have to admit that the ever vanishing social life, the ever dwindling bank account, and the rude comments are fine with me, as long as I'm able to do what's best for my sugar kitty. I am thankful every day that Bailey is here with us, even when she decides to chase her pompom mouse at 4am after I have been getting up over and over until 3am to test and feed.

Then if they are bold enough to ask what's wrong, I say she has a brain tumor and that's shuts them right up.
I might need to steal that line.
My dad called me tonight to tell me about a dog who went missing in NYC, and the owners were pleading for help because the dog has a heart condition and requires meds. He found it to be incredulous that people do that for the pets. On the positive side, I think he is beginning to understand more.

even when she decides to chase her pompom mouse at 4am after I have been getting up over and over until 3am to test and feed.

That's when you have to smile - chasing the pompom mouse at 4 a.m. is her way of thanking you for your tireless efforts - and well you weren't sleeping anyway, were you? I sure hope Bailey might start to think about going out on the porch/lanai for a bit to enjoy the Florida sun...but if she likes it when the beam comes inside...well that's ok too:facepalm:

What is HRH and how do I get myself one of those cat beds! :woot:

Her Royal Highness - Ana you need to watch a little more TV (whoever said that!) Whenever they talk about the Royal Family in England - the Queen is referred to as HRH  I use the term loosely and somewhat sarcastically  I'd probably be impaled in the UK for making such a reference - but Luci always walks around and acts as if she's the 'Queen' and I'm just her humble servant:p..it's just her attitude. As for that adorable bed, just give a shout to @Bellasmom, Jamie - she made that adorable bed - very talented lady!
