Well, we made it through our New Year's timing issues, thanks to being home an hour earlier than anticipated. We had a bit of drama on the 2nd as I had to move him by an hour for two AM shots. That's a lot, I know, but he's usually much higher in the AM. So he tanked on the 2nd very quickly, likely a combo of earlier shot time, a big poo, and a bounce break. The blues do look lovely, though it was stressful! I knew I'd be home all day to watch him, thankfully. @Suzanne & Darcy The wedding was lovely, and I hope all had a great ringing in of the New Year.

Anyway, I'm to be giving Fred B-12 shots weekly for 6 weeks. I've done this before, and always cringe at the size of the needle. It looks like a saber. He's never had a problem, but the other day, he moved, and I think it hurt him. (and some leaked out) As such, I'd really prefer to use the insulin needles if I can. It also allows me to not have to pester the vet for the additional, and more expensive, larger needles. I know this has been asked before, but I want to double-check for his dose.

Fred is to receive 0.2 1/2 ml...in between 0.2 and 0.3. I'm sorry..my metric stinks. My B-12 bottle is 1000 mcg/ml. So does that translate to 25u on a U-100 needle? I'm tagging @Larry and Kitties, as I believe you've traveled this road before, but any help is appreciated.

Happy New Year!

I give Bandit methyl B12 shots with an insulin needle.

If you willl be using a u-100 insulin syringe to give the B-12 shot, 1ml = 100 units. Therefore 0.25ml would translate to 25 units on U-100 syringe.

More blue. More blue. More blue!:cool:

I used to use my insulin syringes to give the B12 and would give J.D. 25 units.
J.D. passed away a little over 6 years ago. Back then, I would get the insulin syringes in 1/2 inch length and never had a problem.
I am giving my present kitty Ginger B12 shots, and when I went to WalMart to get the insulin syringes for her the Relion syringes had changed to (I think it was) 3/16th or 5/16th inch lengths. I found that the little teeny weeny 3/16th inch insulin syringes would not always be able to penetrate the B12 rubber stopper of the B12 vial and I was drawing in air. I complained to WalMart and the 5/16th inch insulin needles seem to be working a little better.

Yep. I do 25 units on my BD U-100 syringes. You have calculated it correctly. My syringes are 3/10 mL capacity and 5/16” in length (8mm). I’ve never had any trouble drawing the B-12 liquid oit of the bottle.

Happy New Year, Kathleen.

Fred looks good in blue! You did well!
