Yesterday we got a bump

Poor Frank just wasn't coming down the way we would have liked, so we bumped him up to 2.75. We got a nice set of blues last night and now we are bouncing again this morning. He taking a nap right now and making me jealous. Tomorrow morning we should have his schedule adjusted to its new regular so I am sure when we stop tweaking, that will help.

Since he looks like he is going to be bouncy today, I think I may take care of some things that need to be done out of the house. I hope eveyone has a great day and all kitties are safe and happy!

Come on Frank, time to work that extra juice and slowly ease on down tonight.

I use the 4 compartment version of the feeder - but that's because I serve raw and want the one with the compartment for the freezer pack. Mine is pretty robust and Neko hasn't been able to bust it open. I shouldn't say anything, but I've had it over a year and a half on the same set of batteries.(antijinx) I use it 4 times a day. A couple of things I don't like. The user interface is horrible! For example, I want it to go off on the half hour and the only way I can do that is to set the clock either 1/2 hour ahead or behind. It only lets you set feeding times on the hour. It works fine, but I have to dig out the instructions any time I want to change something. One other caution, I don't know if that version lets you record something, but if it does - don't do it. It becomes tiring very quickly and I can't get rid of it, only record silence over top of it.

Hi again:) After trying 3 different ones, I use this one (the 5 compartment): http://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-5-Meal-Electronic-Pet-Feeder/dp/B000GEWHNS/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20

The reason I liked it, is that it lets you set any time you like in a digital format with no particular intervals (some of the others just had a dial and you couldn't pick an exact time, just an estimate), and the front compartment does have space under it for an ice pack (but not under the other 4 compartments). I freeze food for those ones. It does make a loud whirring when it turns, but that just reminds Chyna it's fuds time (not that she doesn't know already, haha).

And Wendy, you made me  at the recording, I looked at this one and almost bought it for that! Guess it's a good thing I didn't, I probably wouldn't have thought of recording silence and would be pulling my hair out ;-)

I used this one and really loved it. http://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-5-Meal-Electronic-Pet-Feeder/dp/B000GEWHNS/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20 I was able to buy it at my local Petco.

The only complaint i found on the reviews before i bought it was about it not opening fully. So every time we put the food tray in, we made sure it was seated fully in the base unit and pressed the button to rotate it one slot. As long as you had it fully seated, it always opened. You could also put the feeding tray in the dishwasher, although we washed ours by hand.

To program the times, you set the current time, then enter the time you wanted it to open. The instructions were good and it was fairly intuitive once you went through them one time. We had ours set to open at 10am every day, and if punkin's amps was lower, I would add 11am, 11:30am, and noon if I needed to. So you could have it open 4 times. the 5th slot is open when you put the feeding tray into the base. so one slot in the lid is always open and the base rotates around under the open slot.

We used it for maybe a year or more before punkin died and it always opened fine. He also couldn't break into it. I really liked it.

The half hour thing may be important. Rachel and Julie...Looks like you both prefer the same one. I looked at that one too. Can you set it to half-hours? I picked the other one for the voice recording and apparently the lid is hard to get in to. If it makes a loud, distinct noise, then that will clue him in to when food is available. I just need it for days I am at school and can't monitor. Four cycles a week.

You can set it to any time you'd like, you just set it to a time, like you do an alarm clock except you have up to 10 times you can fill in:) I haven't had any problems with it :-D

The one I use make a mechanical noise when it rotates. Neko comes running from across the house when it starts - that is, if she isn't lying down beside it like she is now.

you can't miss the "whirring" noise as the feeding tray rotates around. the first time it went off we all hit the ceiling. it's not subtle!

punkin was really suspicious the first time, like he thought it was a trap of some kind. big noise, then his beloved food was sitting right there in plain view. he kinda stretched out to sniff, leaning towards it but ready to run if it made that big sound again! it was pretty funny. wasn't long before it became his buddy and he knew when it was going to go off. animals have quite the sense of time, you know.

after he'd gotten used to it, when it went off, he'd leap from wherever and make it to the feeder in mere moments. if he wasn't hanging out next to it already. :-D

and yes, you just put in the time you want. it'll go off at 2:43 if you want it to. and again at 2:53 if you want. it's pretty easy to enter the times you want and to change them.

if both DH and i were working, and punkin looked low at preshot, we'd set it to go off at 9 & 10am, DH would come home and check punkin's BGs, then reset it to go off every half hour if he was low and add HC to the feeder, then I would come home during my lunch at 11:30 and check him again, reset it for more times and add more food if needed. sometimes DH came home during his lunch too. between us and the feeder, we managed to keep punkin alive in spite of working.

hehe the more i talk about the feeder, the more i have fond feelings for it!
