The subject of this post is the continuation of yesterday's topic. A few very smart ladies came up with two reasons why Daphne's AMPS is always higher then her PMPS. One was, that food could possibly make her pancreas kick in on the PMPS since I was feeding at the PMPS +10, +11, (not supposed to do), and I don't feed at the AMPS +10, +11. So the AMPS was consistently higher then the PMPS #'s. The other theory is that of a "dawn" effect, where the cat will sometimes be higher in the AM (dawn).

So yesterday (actually it was 3:00 AM) @ 3:00 AM/+10 I gave Daphne food to see if the first theory is correct. Well, like usual cat behavior, Daphne dicided she was not going to participate in this bean experiment, (she was not hungry between 3:00 AM and her usuall AM feeding/AMPS). She may have eaten about a tbsp, but not much more.

So I'm not sure whether there is enough information to make a decision on the reason why Daphne is higher in the AMPS. It could be the dawn effect…??

I decided I will try and see if I can make her eat a little more tonight (redo experiment) and see if I can get some answers this time.

Thanks Sienne and Marjorie in helping me with this puzzle. I hope to get some answers soon, but for now, I'm happy with all the :mrgreen: I can get.

Beautiful greens today for Daphne! I hope you get it figured out. Tarragon is ALWAYS higher at AMPS. I attribute it to dawn effect and eating before I get out of bed. We free feed but I know he waits until right before I get up to eat a lot of times.

Yes, I see Melissa. I may as well say I free feed, Daphne gets so many extra meals a day… Can I ask you how you do that? Do you have a timed feeder or do you use hard food? I also notice that Daphne sleeps harder when the lights are turned down (when I turn the lights off and dim the TV so I can get to sleep myself before dawn), so maybe your Tarragon does that too, (sleeps instead of eating at +9,+10…)

Hopefully, tomorrow.....

Sienne's theory is a good one and sometimes we do advise kitties like Daphne who *might* have a functioning pancreas to eat later in the cycle to get that pancreas going. I was just throwing out another idea just in case that wasn't the case with Daphne so you'd have a backup theory. So....on to tomorrow!!

And as a note: this information on feeding late in the cycle only applies to Daphne or kitties who are green all the time, at a low dose, and might be thinking about going to the falls.

Daphne just decided to climb to 83 @ +4, and thats probably because mom got too scared and gave a .25 decrease. So, yes, the kitties are the ones running the show here :lol: :lol:

It may take some time to figure this out, (higher AMPS to lower PMPS), it could be either at this point, the dawn theory or the pancreas. I'm just going to try one more night to give her 1/4 can @+10 (it may be +9 if I can't stay awake till 3:00 AM).

Updated numbers are PMPS 55, +1 53, +2 66, +4 83 and I gave her 1.50 instead of 1.75. I will bring it back to 1.75 tomorrow AM unless Daphne is too low.

I just wanted to say that there is certainly is a dawn phenomena and Moonie is usually higher in the am.. and has been throughout her time here. I free feed also, so Moonie does get extra food if she wants!


Daphne may bounce in the morning from these green numbers, so you need to see where she is in the am...
She has had some very nice numbers, and need to see where she is tomorrow with the dose crease..

Hi Roni, thanks for the advice. My DH does morning AMPS,... so far AMPS has been in the blues, and I expect it to be that way for a while I guess, but green :mrgreen: is always welcome of course.

Giving a BCS (big chicken sh*t) dose probably made sense at PMPS. You've never shot quite that low. It helps if you're able to work your way down to shooting low numbers. You'll notice that some of the folks that have been around for a while will shoot numbers in the 50s and above.

Thanks Sienne. Yup, BC, thats me nailbite_smile I really want to work up to shooting low, but I just didn't have it in me tonight, I'll be brave next time. I won't let DH shoot low because I'm not downstairs to watch Daphne, so the PMPS will be the times that are going to get the most attention around here. I miss the days when she was able to walk up the stairs, and sleep next to me, but being 17, she's doing pretty well I guess.
