Good Morning, Everyone,

Rusty has a bounce going this morning; he may have gone low last night. He ate most of his nighttime food at some point and was eager for his test this morning. We had a good shot and good breakfast. Weight (on our digital scales): 16 lb., 6 oz. (lost 1/2 oz. since Jan. 23rd). We have a vet appointment for 2:45 this afternoon (Eastern time). I scheduled this appointment to discuss Rusty's weight loss (about 1/2 lb. since early December) and also to discuss his HCT, which was 27.9% on his last test (in October), but in previous tests had been around 40%. Any suggestions on which other values I should bring up in my talk with the vet? (Rusty's Labs are on a separate page in his Spreadsheet; the values in Red ink are the ones that are out of the normal range). I'm a medical idiot, so I don't know what most of the abbreviations stand for, but I did learn that HCT = Hematocrit and that low HCT signifies anemia. I'll be interested to see what his score is today (my vet uses the IDEXX in-house diagnostics, so I should have the values by tomorrow).

Weather report: going up into the 50s F. today!!! It's a mess out there. Good thing we went on our ski trip yesterday.

Wishing everyone a good day and continuing to send positive thoughts and healing vines to our sick kitties and beans,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167 vet day

Hi guys .. no advice from me as far as what to ask at the vets, but wanted to send good vetty thoughts your way .. We have some major flooding going on around here, with the snow melting and the storms we've had roll through, you're right, it is a mess! Have a great day guys!

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167 vet day

Hi Ella. Rusty's blue # is a nice start of the day. Wish Rusty a great report from the Vet today.

Have a great day.

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167 vet day

Hi there,
Wishes for a great vet appointment for Rusty. You might want to ask why the K value dropped along with the hematocrit. Just puzzles me.

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167 vet day

Morning Ella, not a bad bounce at all and nice number since you have Vetty visit. Sending many good Vetty vines for Rusty today for a good exam and answers to your questions. Safe travels today, as your weather does sound messy with the temps up today and melting snow.

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167 vet day

I'm glad your getting Rusty to the vet. My only experience with anemia was with Kibby recently and it was due to mycoplasma, a blood infection from a flea bite. But Rusty's could be from something entirely different, as he's got the weight loss happening, too. So my only suggestion is, if they don't find an obvious answer today, to get the flea parasite screening test done next. Hopefully it's something simple and easily treated. Sending tons of good vetty vines, and will be waiting for an update.

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167 vet day

Morning guys paws crossed for a good vet visit today! Will be interested to hear how it goes. Maybe the bounce is the anticipation of the vetty visit lol! Have a great day Ella.

Paws crossed for a good vetty visit. The lagoon awaits, Rusty. Ugh on the 50 f - that sure messes up winter sports. :-x

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167, +5.5 97 vet day

I am sending good vet vines. Good that you are rechecking the HCT/PCV.
Maybe it was off due to a recent infection or hydration issues last time? I tend to think renal issues with anemia, but Rusty's renal values are good. Perhaps there is a small GI bleed somewhere? Like a small ulcer perhaps. If it is still low maybe the vet should follow up with an ultrasound? The Tanya's CRF website has an excellent section on anemia, whether kidney related or otherwise.

I am keeping everything crossed for a good vet report.

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167, +5.5 97, +10 99 back from vet

Hi again,

We're back from the vet and the results of the blood work are on Rusty's SS (the Labs tab). The HCT is back in the normal range and the vet thought his values were good. She also did a complete urinalysis with C&S, just to see if there was anything there that might suggest the weight loss (she agrees that the weight loss is an issue). The results of the urine tests may be back from the lab by Saturday. She thought that his breathing sounded louder and asked us if we thought so, but sometimes it seems louder to us and sometimes not. He does have some sort of breathing thing (we noticed it when we first adopted him). She may schedule a chest x ray. We will discuss it when all the labs are back.

Thanks to everyone who commented and gave us support today. Rusty is fine, but he does have vetty smell. Hopefully KTSS will be along this evening. He also got a nail clipping and had his anal sacks expressed.

bbl, have to make dinner now.

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167, +5.5 97, +10 99 back from vet

I'm so glad to hear Rusty's HCT is back to normal. Hopefully you'll figure out the weight loss thing soon, and it's an easy "fix". Vetty smell - poor Rusty! I'm sure KTSS is on its way to save the day!!

Have a great night, guys!!

Re: 1/30 Rusty AMPS 167, +5.5 97, +10 99 back from vet

Excellent news on the HCT! I hope you get the weight loss figured out. Is he eating less than normal or the same?

Re: 1/30 Rusty PMPS 147; back from vet

Hi Ella.
Very good news on the HCT. I'm curious to hear an opinion on the weight loss issue.
My vets keep passing Checks off with, "he's a 16 yo diabetic".

Poor Rusty had to put up with pedicure, 'stinkybutt' cure...yes, that's a medical term..and vetty smell too. Awww

Gonna get cold and snowy again tomorrow...yay for the xcountry skiers.
Have a nice evening

Re: 1/30 Rusty PMPS 147; back from vet

I'm glad Rusty's HCT was back in the normal range. I hope you get good test results back and the weight loss is nothing serious.

Re: 1/30 Rusty PMPS 147; back from vet

Good to hear that Rusty's numbers are improving. So nice that you can get same day results on the B/W! Pretty nice numbers for Rusty given the vetty visit and invasion of his, umm, privacy. Neko is feeling sympathy vibes on the blood and urine extractions and should be rounding the corner shortly with a bunch of rosemary.

Re: 1/30 Rusty PMPS 147; back from vet

Glad to hear there wasn't anything undesireable. There's been too much of that as of late....
Hope Rusty keeps blues and greens tonite...

Re: 1/30 Rusty PMPS 147; back from vet

I think his test results look really great! I hope there is a simple answer for the weight loss.

Nice number after a vetty visit!

Tobes is headed right over with KTSS!

Thanks, guys! See you tomorrow. Rusty slept all evening, but now is batting his bell balls around, getting ready to come to bed. He had good appetite tonight.
