Yesterday's Condo

Cinco is surfing yellow again this evening, it seems. Tonight is the sixth cycle since the "fur shot", so should we bump him up to 2.0 in the am? That is the question.

Full disclosure: the following long-winded tale is about a civvie, so I won't be offended if you stop reading now.

This has been a very draining day. Cinco seemed to be doing okay, and I had all these plans for what I was going to accomplish, and then, of course, one of the other kitties threw a monkey wrench into the works. Around noon, Harvey started running from one litter box to another (we have 7). He'd get in, crouch for a minute or two, throw some litter around, then jump out and run to the next one. I'd seen him do it before, so I wasn't worried until this went on for almost an hour. Then I started following him. I saw him straining so hard he was almost convulsed, and grunting, and only a few drops of clear liquid and one tiny turd came out. He buried it, jumped out and ran up the stairs, giving pathetic little cries the whole way. I offered him some FF salmon laced with fish oil - no interest. I offered chicken baby food with coconut oil in it. He scarfed it down and went back to the litter box 500. I called the vet and they said to get him in as soon as I could. He knew something was up, but I eventually caught him. He cried the whole way to the vet (one hour, 15 minutes), but that's what he always does. He peed in the carrier. When he got out onto the exam table, he was purring and perfectly normal. No tenderness, etc. They ran a full blood panel, did xrays and took a urine sample. The xrays showed he had some poo in his colon, but not so much that it would be a problem. However, his colon was loaded with gas! The vet thought this might be causing him to feel like he had to go, and was probably painful. She prescribed an anti-inflammatory and told me to pick up some pediatric Mylicon. She said that his stomach was much larger than one would expect, given he hadn't eaten a full meal since 10:00 am and only the little bit of baby food at 1:00 pm, and the xray was taken at almost 5:00 pm. She was concerned about this, so she told me to withhold food overnight and bring him back tomorrow morning for another x-ray to be sure the stomach had returned to a normal size. So we went home, after stopping at Walmart for Mylicon. Harvey stayed in his carrier while everyone else had dinner, then I shoved him into the catsack and gave him his anti-inflammatory and his Mylicon (he is so strong it is virtually impossible to do anything to him without this kind of restraint. Kitty burritos do not work). He was not happy with me! cat(2)_steam I made sure all food was picked up and turned him loose and he went off and pouted somewhere. The next time I saw him, he was glassy eyed (the anti-inflammatory is once a day so must be pretty strong). He went to the litter box and still had no results. He did, however, provide the area with an aroma :o . I guess the gas-relief med is working. When I gave some of the other kitties a snack, he showed up and wanted some, and it was really hard (physically and emotionally) to keep him away. He's off pouting again now. I'm not looking forward to breakfast tomorrow morning. Catching him to take him back to the vet is going to be another adventure. bcatrun_gif He is 9 lbs 8 oz of solid muscle. I told the vet that all my other kitties have health issues and he must have decided he was being left out. :YMSIGH:

This is why I am so late posting my condo, and I haven't had time to visit many, either. I hope to make up for it tomorrow afternoon. If anyone is up late enough to be reading this, go to bed!!! Hope you all have a good night and kitties are surfing safely. Sending vines to all in need.

I hope the meds are working and Harvey's stomach is back to normal size this morning. It is so hard to keep one kitty from eating and feed the others. Good luck with the dosecrease for Cinco. I hope today is calmer for you.
