You know how TITi makes these whippet fast runs to steal kibble? Well. lately she's also got sneaky. She hides and then as I open the door and exit , she appears out of nowhere and races towards the kitchen kibbles. This night I was in a hurry and ran out the bedroom door and then saw a black puffed up to Halloween proportions TiTi racing toward the kibble , and her tail...was all puffed up and it took me a few seconds to realize that her tapered tail-end was NOT THERE!:eek:

Not quite on board with the reality, I chased her back into the bedroom, and there, stuck to the corner of the door was 1/3 inch of black cat tail. Two puffs of black fur trailed down the rug.

TiTi hid under the bed. No wonder.
I sat on the bed and moaned, "Ohhh nooooo." Then raced back to the kitchen to get some bupe for my poor wounded TiTi. She came out from under the bed and I saw 4 inches of blooded skin protruding from where the tip of her tail had been. Gave TiTi her bupe and cuddled her for about 40 minutes, feeling just plain awful. Her majestic black tail, ruined without its long, elegantly tapered ending. I felt like a Gestapo or a KGB agent assigned to torture.

I'm going to watch for swelling, and any other problems, and call the vet tomorrow to see if she needs antibiotics.

Not very fond of myself tonight.:(:banghead::(:banghead:

Oh Kathy :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Don't blame yourself.....these kitties have a way to get into trouble no matter how well intentioned we are. Accidents happen to everyone.

I'm sure with some time, TiTi will completely recover and while she may have a little shorter tail, it will just make her more unique!!

good that it was a tail and not a foot.....

I know how bad you feel but these things happen and it could have been much worse....
She'll survive just fine .

I hope it heals nicely. Good that you watch it and consult the vet.

I had a little pomeranian puppy years and years ago.... and I hadn't noticed that she had a little curl
in her tail... she had chewed on it so we bandaged it straight....

well ....
apparently that cut off the circulation because the next day I realized that her bandage was gone,
and her tail was shorter....
the bone was protruding and she had to have surgery to have it the bone shortened so that there was flesh
to cover it. She was black and she looked like a little wombat ....

so hopefully Titi will heal nicely, has flesh to cover it all.....
and loves you all the same.....
well.... maybe tomorrow.....
fortunately they don't remember for long..... and they climb right back on your lap and offer love....

((((Kathy)))))

These things happen, unfortunately. One time I shut my 18 month old daughter's entire foot in the sliding door of our van. I was holding her on my hip and my car keys were in my pants pocket. I'd locked the door, so while holding her, attached to the van, I had to unlock the door to get her foot out. I cried the entire way to the pediatrician. Fortunately, no permanent damage done, but I felt like scum.

You didn't mean to hurt her - you were trying to protect her. She'll be ok in another week or so. In the meantime, while you feel crappy, I'm sending you lots of sympathy. :bighug:

That tail is going to heal up just fine and she'll be back to causing trouble in no time! Happy healing vines TiTi!

Please don't fret. We're pretty powerless to prevent a cat from getting up to no good. They're experts at it. So I think this is just one of those situations to be thankful that it wasn't anything serious, and then continue onward and upward.

I'm so sorry. I know it's not easy, but don't blame yourself. It was just an accident. Praying her tail heals quickly. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

How's TiTi today? I hope you both are recovering from the accident nicely!!!

Tail is good, but has lost some functionality. Don't think it will return, too much nerve damage. :(

I'm more concerned about her BG numbers. I've posted a new condo about her tail and her BGs. Sigh.

Gee don't be too hard on yourself, it was an accident!
Years ago my little Snickers was sitting at my sliding glass door screen. I hated her sitting there because I was on the 22nd floor and I was always afraid of her getting out on the balcony. So I scooped her up and closed the door at the same time and she yelped and bit me. I had caught her tail in it. I felt absolutely awful!!! I put her down, she ran under the bed and I went into the bathroom to hold my finger under water. A minute later she peeked around the corner of the door like she was afraid I was going to be angry at her. I snuggled her for quite a while after that.
