Did not give insulin and after 90 minutes, he was down to 168 with food. Hubby will get a mid day reading. If he is still high this evening will give insulin accordingly. The dose of .5 last night did not do much for his numbers. His lowest reading was 153 at +5.5 so will likely increase if he needs insulin tonight and monitor. :YMSIGH:

Does his mouth/gums look okay? I am still wondering if the higher numbers are somehow tied to the dental. Regardless, you can get him back down where you want him with tiny doses.

If I counted right, today is the last day for antibiotic correct?

Not sure how long antibiotics stay in system...but maybe it has built up in his system and once he is off the med, things will go back to normal. Just a thought. :smile:

I would also check out his mouth/gums like Sue suggested.

I thoroughly checked his mouth and gums and all looks well. Today is the last dose of the antibiotic so hoping that is what is happening. He HATES this dang stuff. It is liquid and I have to squirt it in his mouth and he spits it out.. ohmygod_smile

His numbers today were:
AMBG 218 NO INSULIN
+1.5 168
+6 117
PMBG 206

NO shot again this evening as his pancreas is still working when he eats. He slept most of the afternoon per hubby so he did not eat much in the PM so his BG rose again :YMSIGH:

If he is still high a few days after the antibiotic is out of his system, will begin insulin again. The shot yesterday did absolutely nothing but I only gave him .5u. (unless of course he spikes over 240 and then will definitely give him a whole unit for sure even before the antibiotic is out of his system) I am very low on strips until my order gets here from ADW so not risking him crashing and only having 5 strips left tonight or I might have shot a small dose tonight.

Will see how he is tomorrow morning and hoping he is not high again but if he is, hubby will go to CVS and buy a box of 25 strips to hold us over cause I will give Simon insulin if he is high in the morning. I am not expecting my ADW order until Saturday or even Monday. Hubby went through about 5 strips today at +6 and kept getting an error code (he is not as good at this as I am..lol) so he used up my extra ones that would have been enough to get me through until Saturday without insulin but with giving him insulin, I need to have a good amount of strips in case. Ugh! This sucks!
