Here's my last condo from 1/25. http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=62094
I went away for the weekend and had a 4th year medical student pet sitting. I walked in the door at 2:30 p.m. and tested Simon. He was at 28. Blink/rub eyes. Tested again. Still 28. Tested the civvie Molly. She was 59 (so my meter isn't just reading 28 on everyone!)

Fed him some MC.
He has shown no symptoms other than trying to find more of the MC on the counter and near the refrigerator flip_cat MC is yummy fuds...

I feel fairly confident that the pet sitter gave accurate shots, but. . .I guess I don't KNOW it was done exactly right.

Good news is that we don't have any more trips planned until May! Here's hoping Simon can get OTJ by then

I am planning to lower his dose to .25 and watch him like a hawk! Is this correct?

Any advice about tonight's pm dose (7pm central time) would be GREATLY appreciated!

Retest in 30 min. and add more carby foods. Remember, you'll need to test and feed (very small amounts -- mostly the gravy vs. the solids) until you see two tests above 50 and the numbers are stable. You still need to keep testing to make sure the numbers don't drop after the carbs wear off.

It's possible that Simon wasn't eating well while you were away.

He is going up and down as food wears off, but he's looking at me like "what's the big deal mom?" (NO HYPO SYMPTOMS)

I would appreciate advice from any more experienced caregivers about what dose to shoot tonight!

Kim

Let me look at your SS but typically you would give a .25u decrease. BRB.

Re: 1/29 Kim's Simon +7 28! EYES/Dose Advice Please

Looks like Simon is liking less juice.

Two doors to choose from since it is +10.5 and he's coming up.

1. If he's over 200 by shot time, you can shoot the s.5u through the bounce and take the reduction in the morning BUT I like door number 2 better

2. he hasn't bounced since the 16th so he's probably not going to bounce too high in which case you should reduce him by .25u. Since you are shooting s.5u you can either take him just to .25u to make it easy or try the s.25u. I'd probably just do the .25u.

Sound good?

Re: 1/29 Kim's Simon +7 28! EYES/Dose Advice Please

I agree with Marje's "door number 2" but I'd take the dose down to a skinny 0.25u. Simon's a newly diagnosed diabetic AND that 28 was impressive.

Re: 1/29 Kim's Simon +7 28! EYES/Dose Advice Please

Simon is proud that you called him impressive.

I think we'll take door number 2, .25!I will do a test here in a minute which is a slightly late +11 and then post my pmps in a bit.

Kim, also behind door #2 was ......................................a year's supply of Turtle Wax !

Your turtles should look fabulous for the rest of the year! ;-)

Kim

Sienne likes skinny.25 better than .25...ok? Can you shoot the sk.25u? Just a drop less than .25 and then just try to be as consistent as you can with subsequent shots?

Re: 1/29 Kim's Simon +7 28! EYES/Dose Advice Please

Roger the skinny .25. Was just logging on to consult pictures of .25 and realized I missed the mention of the SKINNY!

Simon is pretty fast-track, isn't he! Everything's bigger in Texas, including the reducies I guess

Re: 1/29 Kim's Simon +7 28! EYES/Dose Advice Please

So far, these two trips have been blessings in disguise! We realized Simon was doing better on less insulin. We're feeling blessed. That's not to say that I'm going to bed early tonight or anything...
