So Elian remains in the 400's every morning - I upped him to 2.5 units. Will keep an eye on him throughout the day. I need to do more reading to try to understand how this all works - I really don't get it. If anybody has any links about when and how much to feed; how it affects his bg, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

when his numbers are high it's really not an issue. When you know he is likely to take a big drop that's when it helps to give a little food but you don't really know what he's going to do on this dose yet. Rule of thumb...no food 2 hours before shots. Maybe in a couple of weeks you can take the weekend to just do a weekend curve on E. Test every couple of hours -cept when you're sleeping-to see how he is really using the Lantus....

Thanks Caryl. I haven't been feeding him a few hours before shots - he eats in the afternoon but I don't give shots until 9 pm. Then I feed him again. I'm going to try to get more tests in the next few days to see what's happening but I rarely get past +3 or 4 in the PM because of how late I give him his shot. Sadly, even though he knows he's getting his treat and he knows our routine and will lay right down between my legs on the floor for each test, he tries to avoid me when he sees me coming now. I hate that he's afraid of me because he thinks he's gonna get poked every time.

He's just not used to it yet. I'm not saying he's ever going to LOVE being poked but he will come to love the attention and the bonding once you're more comfortable with it. Ps no one really tests much in the middle of the night unless there's s reason to. Alex's last shot in weekdays is btween 10-11 also

I'm actually fine with the testing - get it done within seconds. But the other three know the routine and as soon as they hear me getting his stuff ready they come running for their treat! Then they're all hovering over poor E until I get it done. Quite the comedy. He's spending more time out on the patio now to stay away from me. :( But..... he's curled up beside me in bed now. :)
