cat(2)_steam

Stash was howling for food at 4amp, within our 2 hour pre-shot window. With the current health issues I could not ignore him, so the 409 includes a food spike.

Last night's +3.5 was 58 and the +6 was 114. I am going to stop after work and pick up some MC food to feed at dinner time and PM +3. Hopefully that will counter this issue.

I've gotten some suggestions on a vitamin switch (to Nu-Cat) and hopefully our vet will be on board. If he's not, then so be it. I'll make the switch anyway.

Re: 1/27 Stash - AMPS 409

Comment from Steve & Jock on my Health thread (and I am NOT trying to start a war!):

Be gentle with those med-carb foods and test a lot. Each cat's spike from carbs is different.

An alternative could be to give a quarter-unit less (or even a smidge less) insulin in the morning so his evening drop is lower. (Remember the drop comes a long time after the shot!) Then use a regular-sized evening shot.

Also, just how low is he going in th evenings? You might be overreacting. If his numbers are above 60 at the low point, you might not want to do anything at all.

I get what he's saying about MC foods. But I'm not following the logic about dropping back down to .5u of a morning and .75u of an evening. That seems backwards, and I thought it was already mentioned that's not a good idea to use different doses?

Please, please, please. Don't pounce on Steve. Just help me comprehend what he is saying in relation to all the issues we have going on and Lantus.

Re: 1/27 Stash - AMPS 409 ~ +3 358

Have you decided if you're going for the Nu Cat in liquid, tablets or soft chews form? I can send you a sample of the soft chews if you like, but I don't know if they'll raise BG. (Cali won't eat it, but I'm betting Meowzi will, so I'm saving it for a really bad eating day).

We bought ours from Entirepets.com; if you do the same, don't forget to use the link from the old board so FDMB gets a commission from the purchase.

It's on the list to discuss with our vet today. I printed out the ingredients list for the NuCat, NuCat Senior, and the Felovite, but haven't had a chance to compare. I can't imagine he will object to the change - I think he just sent home what he had handy.

Venita said she's not seen a BG issue with Ennis on the NuCat. I plan to get the soft chews as Stash seems to think any pill is just another Temptations treat (as long as there are a couple of Temptations also).

Thanks for the info on the commission. Didn't realize it was there.

Re: 1/27 Stash - AMPS 409 ~ +3 358 ~ +6 187

+10 is 250

That's almost immediately after returning from the vet's for his first ImmunoRegulin injection. DD took treats, catnip and blankie. He thoroughly enjoyed having the blankie there.

PMPS is 401. :-x

OK. No placing blame on any family member, but life got in the way. PMPS was not until +14.

So... Afternoon vet appointment. First ImmunoRegulin injection. No clue about side-effects with Stash. Blood draw for the IFA test. And a late PM shot. No wonder his BG is high.

:YMSIGH:

On the bright side... Dr. P was glad to see Stash so much perkier than he was on Friday. Stash stalked, and captured, a pencil from the kitchen table tonight. And he is sporting his newly shaved neck and foreleg with much aplomb!

I didn't understand Steve & Jock, either. I thought the logic was backwards, too. Maybe Libby or Cassandra will be able to make sense out of it.

I think the issue with variable doses and Lantus is that it will play havoc with the shed. What I suspect will happen is that half of the time, the shed will be overly full and half the time you will be trying to fill a shed that's too low. Alternatively, the shed may maintain the "average" of the two doses so it's never quite right and you may end up with really weird numbers.
