dear all,
She's probably back in pancreatitis episode. I know you all will be horrified but I'm thinking of letting her go tonight after the family says their goodbyes. She has had so much suffering over the past couple of years and I now have MS symptoms that I need to deal with and are overwhelming to me. I can't care for us both. I think that she has had pancreatitis a long time but I didn't know about what her symptoms meant. now she's in overt distress. before it was subtle but chronic pancreatitis explains her insulin resistance and her lethargy.
This is not an easy decision and I may change my mind but please no lectures. The vet receptionist just gave me one. I'm not taking this lightly.
I did just try to give her a couple of drops of milk thislle and that was a non starter.
 
Aww hon, have you had her tested at the Vet's? Can't they tell you positively if it's pancreatitis ? Lot's of kitties have had bouts of it and continued to live long lives afterwards.

I hate for you to have to make that decision, especially without knowing for sure.

Any chance you could rehome her? A lot of people here take fosters, adopt, other FD kitties. If I wasn't in a 1 bd apt with 3 cats, I would.

Please give thought to other options. If after considering other ways to handle the situation and you still feel that is the best course of action, no one here would scorn you. Sometimes there is no other option. But please check it out and see.

No one here will condemn you for doing what is best for Rosie. I would rather see her travel to her next adventure at the Bridge in the arms that she feels safe and loved than to have her dumped in a shelter or left untreated to linger and die. Last year I released my beautiful black boy when he was dxed with cancer. Yes I could have gone the whole chemo route and maybe given us a few more months together but I knew him best and knew that he wouldn't want to be forever pilled and poked and prodded. So he shared his last breakfast with his daddy and then we let him go.

Debbie had some real good advice.You know all 3 of mine were adopted as diabetics because their original moms had health problems that made it difficult to care for them too.

Would you consider letting us help you find a new home for Rosie? Since she's already a DCIN kitty if we all put our heads together I bet we can find her a new family that will love her just as much as you do and will have more time on their hands to deal with her health problems. That way you can take care of you and she can get the extra help she needs to live a healthy happy life.

Rosie is thirteen this May. I saw a big change in her over the past few months. I know she is suffering and I've tried very hard to care for her. I know that if I rehomed her that would also kill her because she is a very high strung and very attached to me. I can't imagine someone wanting my sick cat, vomiting, diabetic kitty.
I'm not totally committed to this. I have a severe medical problem right now in my spine and pain down my arms and my right hand is partially numb. I may be overly stressed out and I am going to think it over carefully.
 
Aw Robin. So sorry you and Rosie aren't feeling well. Lots of us have adopted kitties who were already sick. My boy was very sick when I fostered and then adopted him. Cats are resilient and can adapt and attach themselves to new families. I also fostered a 14 year old with a raging UTI and over the top bg numbers. Her fur was matted and she was barely 5 lbs and had a host of other health problems. I only had her for a month before she was adopted by a loving family who could take care of all her medical issues. She is in great health now and regulated and happy.

It is your heart that knows how to care for her and when to send them lovingly to the bridge. We are just offering that there may be other options.
 
A little love and care goes a long way with a new kitty. I'm willing to bet she would adjust, but I'm sure she'd miss you for a while.

Maybe she's just too much for you with your own medical problems. I could understand how hard that would be. Could she be too much with all you're going thru?

I'm sure there is more than a few that would be willing to give her a 'furever' home, for you. So you could concentrate on your medical issues and know that she had a good home and was properly taken care of.

There are many like me that already have geriatric cats. I have a feral that just turned 19 and my Lucian is 15. I expect both of them to have a few happy years left.

Please don't think, that because of illness and age, that someone wouldn't love her like you do.
 
Looking at her spreadsheet she needs a dose increase her nadirs aren't nearly low enough..She is spending way too much time in the yellows and your seeing no greens at all.
