All P's in place feeling good playing right now and not sure why I do this to myself but compared meters again today sigh....... :?:  :YMSIGH: +9 179 freestyle 287 relion confirm to me such a big diff the only time they are close is when he is low I just wish I knew which to trust since like I said in another condo not sure when wondering if I am underdosing due to the fact that the freestyle ALWAYS reads lower then the confirm his glucose at Antech was 370 higher then my meter readings for that day so its just really really frustrating to me I just do not think meters should be that much different on the same blood drop

you'll drive yourself crazy comparing meters!
let's put this in perspective. there's a +/- 20% acceptable/allowable difference in meters.

20% of 179 = 35.8 and 179 + 35.8 = 214.8
20% of 287 = 57.4 and 287 - 57.4 = 229.6

round those numbers off and you have a 215 and a 230. at that number range, the numbers are pretty darn close together and they won't influence dosing decisions when using the Ls if you stick with one meter.

antech's numbers will usually be higher than numbers we get at home. vet stress is the number one contributor to those higher readings.

incidentally, in the low range (50 - 80), my freestyle meters have always been within 5 - 10 points of my vet's alpha trak meter. although, the difference has been much greater in higher ranges. i ditched the relion ultima because of erroneous readings and unacceptable discrepancies between the relion ultima and the alpha trak in the low range.

my suggestion: stick with one meter. :-D

Thanks Jill for the math comparison I will quit doing this to myself and I prefer the freestyle since its so easy to use with his feet so will stay with that one thanks for pointing out that this Bean is trying to make herself crazy

Hang in there, Lisa. I'm glad Jill was here to show the math for comparing meters, and glad I stopped in. I was about to start comparing meters myself to see if these flat yellows I'm getting are correct, but maybe I shouldn't...if I'd just drive myself nuts.

I didn't know you used DL's foot for testing. I've never tried it on the foot. Do you like it better than the ear?

Heeeey, Do Lou! Good to see you're feelin good and playing today! A bunch of us are going on a road trip w/ Rusty tonight, want in?

I think I like that you can calculate down or calculate up, depending on what you'd like the outcome to be. I like the 179.

Hi Lisa,
I thought I was the only one here comparing two meters. For a while I was comparing the Relion with my Alpha Trak, and there was quite a difference. It does drive a person crazy. Now I just use the Alpha Trak as my Vet looks at her numbers and it's closest to their meter.

Well I have the alpah trak but no strips at the moment the way I go thru strips and with not working I cannot afford the alpha trak

:-D :-D I think we all do this.... when Mannie's numbers were so wonky I was dong the same thing - kept thinking my meter must have been toasty.... My new meter reads higher than the old one too. It all makes one go bonkers. so.... yeah - stick with one meter.

have a great cycle Do Lou!

We just use our Ultra Touch Mini which I compared to the vet's Alpha Trak when we first started out and it was about 20 below hers even at higher numbers. I do have a contour as a "backup" and checked it early on...it ran 20 higher than the Alpha Trak even at lower numbers. So I just you my UTM...I love it....you can only do what you can do. Will be looking forward to hearing DLs results next week. Hang in there!
