Cobb is well this morning. All 6 P's are in place. I've added a P to represent PITA. :-) He was so bad last night. I almost picked up his food to lock him in the laundry room with his litter box. But that would have just earned me him scratching at the door. :-Q :-Q :-Q

Question...so Cobb has seemed hungrier the last few days. The timed feeder is working correctly now so he's fed every few hours, but yesterday he was begging for food between those feedings yesterday. No idea why. Should I feed him when he asks? Yes, I've read the sticky about should I over feed. I'm already over feeding him. Right now he gets 11oz of food a day. I know that's too much, but I also don't want him losing too much weight too quickly because that can damage his other organs. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Re: 1/27 Cobb AMPS 290

Can you weigh Cobb? If he's at a good weight and he's not gaining on what you're feeding, then you could see about adjusting his food. Likewise, if he's losing on the amount you're feeding (and that's what you want him to do), you can make sure he's not losing too rapidly. There's information on Dr. Lisa's page about weight loss and she'll give you some parameters for how rapidly you want to see a kitty lose weight.

I suspect he's hungry either at times when his numbers are high or if his numbers are dropping. I see the same thing with Gabby.

Hi there ~O)
It's not uncommon for a kitty with high BGs to be hungry in spite of eating what seems like enough food. Figuring out what he weighs and whether that is above or below ideal wight for him is the first step. Here is the link for Dr. Lisas info on feeding. I believe there you will find guidelines on the number of calories required to lose, maintain or gain weight.

BK ate 15-16 oz per day for quite some time as he had gone down to 7.2 lbs. He did get a bit plump for a while - a little over 13 lbs. He looked best at about 11-11.5lbs which he maintained on 6oz of food per day. I just got a baby scale so that I can keep track of all our kitters weights.

Maybe an adjustment to the timings of his meals would help?

I came across a photo I had forgotten about the other day- BK waiting for his feeder to deploy
he was always at the ready.

Good luck on finding the perfect fuds amount and weight :-D I love Sandys picture, Chyna does the same thing, either staring at the autofeeder or the empty bowl  I'm glad Cobb is so well, despite the P from PITA ;-) Have a great Monday!

I'll keep tweaking the time of his feedings. I will say he no longer stalks his feeder during the day. He does at night though.

I guess this little rascal is still bouncing...although we did have a stressful morning of a baby crying hysterically as I tried to put him down for nap. Baby was stressed. I was stressed. I dare say the screaming rattled Cobb as well.

They're also just plain pro's at giving us that "look"...the one that says "Don't you love me anymore? Why are you starving me to death?"...despite the fact that some of them waddle when they walk

As much as I hate to add to your duties, have you tried giving him a good workout at night? Might make him feel more like sleeping instead of eating. I have noticed all of mine eat more if they're bored.

Back in the blue...that's where we like to be!

I weighed Cobb this evening. I wish I had gotten a weight when we switched to wet food. But...he weighs 18 3/4 pounds. Yes, I know he needs to lose weight. A couple of pounds probably. I did read that bring overweight can contribute to insulin resistance. He's actually gained about a pound since April. But would that make sense since 1. Being an untreated diabetic he was literally starving and 2. His body was not processing the food? He is becoming more active and I can probably start to play with him again to give him some extra exercise. And then he's getting a little cardio in when the baby crawls toward him.

I was getting concerned with the higher numbers nailbite_smile but then took a step back and said..."give him 72 hours to clear the bounce, Suzanne. Be patient. It's natural to see the green and want to speed up. It's a marathon. Slow and steady wins the race." :-D

YEAH for blue!!

You're doing great Suzanne...and if you ever doubt that, go back to your spreadsheet when you started this dance. It's all there in ugly black and red!!

Nice bounce clearing Cobb. How about a nice flat blue surf for tonight?

As Neko got more used to her auto-feeder, she learned when to expect her meals. Now she just quietly hangs out beside it until it delivers, or will go away for a while, and just come back to hang out near it for about 15 minutes before scheduled delivery. Once the autofeeder is down on the floor after meals, she relaxes.
