I've been giving her Clavamox (1.1u am & pm) to treat an infection (reason for infection still unknown). She ate last night. But this morning she isn't eating hardly any bfast. I mixed the 'usual' into her food (2oz Wellness Turkey + .5oz Wellness Chkn, 5 T water, 1/16t. Miralax for her constipation, her B vitamins, a little Fortiflora). She ate about .5oz, and I gave Ripley her regular shot of .5u Lantus. Then she walked away. So I added some treats: a little sniff and a few licks, but then walked away. She food bowl now contains a little of all her favorite treats (she even turned down her beloved tuna flakes :o ), some more Fortiflora (which peaked her interest, but no luck), and most of her meal. She is now sleeping on her rocking chair. I'll continue trying to offer her food throughout the morning.

This is a first. Ripley has always finished her meals. I'm sure it's probably due to the meds and not feeling 100%; maybe nausea?

I was hoping the Pet-ema would arrive by now so I could take care of that discomfort, but it's still en route  .

I know my poor girl isn't feeling well, but I'm actually starting to see signs of it now. She even slept at my feet last night ~ she always sleeps next to my tummy.

I think I'll go find the heating pad to give her some extra warmth and comfort. cat_pet_icon

I wish everyone a happy, warm, healthy Caturday!!

Re: 1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, not hungry

Good morning Josie. Sorry to hear that Ripley isn't feeling any better. I hope the heating pad gives her some relief. Too bad you couldn't get the enema from your vet.

Here is picture of the cat enema we used.

I hope Ripley feels better as the day passes. Have a great weekend.

Re: 1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, not hungry

Does sound like she's nauseous. Maybe try some pepcid? Kibby doesn't tolerate Clavimox well, either, so I usually use Zeniquin for him and it doesn't seem to bother him. I also have some Carafate, which coats the stomach and has worked wonders for Muffin in the past. Maybe I could bring that to you if you can't get her eating. Let me know!

Re: 1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, not hungry

Morning guys! So sorry to hear Ripley is not feeling well
Prayers & healing vines to feel better soon.
It is probably the ab's making the appetite poor. Hope you can have a good Caturday!

1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, +3 207, antibiotic quest.

207! Wrong way, Ripley!

Good news: She had eaten about 75% of her breffis.

No LB yet this morning tho...

John: Thank you for the pic ~ mine is sitting at our local Fed-ex sorting site, waiting to be delivered to me on Monday. grrr

Anne: Thanks for the pepcid advice; I'm running errrands later and will pick some up. Also, many thanks for the offer to bring Carafate. She is eating some now, so I'll hold off for now. But I appreciate your help! (If you ever need me to bring you anything, let me know! Only 15 mins away...!)

Michelle: Thanks for the vines and thoughts ~ they're working!

Questions: So, it's normal for antibiotics to mess up appy? I was told to administer when feeding, but is is better to in btwn feedings, or does it work best w/food?

Also, if not eating much @ shooting, would that make her numbers go up?

Thank you all ~ this is truly the best place!!!!

Re: 1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, +3 207

(((Josie)))

Clavamox is a great A/B but unfortunately, it makes alot of cats feel bad and not want to eat. I can't give it to Gus at all because he will completely stop eating. However, Gracie was on it two months....my little one who is so sensitive to meds...and she never missed a lick of food. Go figure.

I'd call the vet and see if there is another A/B that would work and be less likely to make her inappetant. If she is nauseous but doesn't seem to have an acid tummy (see below), I'd ask for zofran (ondansetron). Pepcid only helps with an acid tummy...it doesn't address nausea. Alot of vets are not used to prescribing ondansetron for nausea....they reach for cerenia. It might help but the ondansetron is usually a better choice.

The other thing I meant to tell you about CKD which you might know is that it can cause them to have an acid tummy. They will lick their lips but more commonly hunch over like the tummy hurts. Also, vomiting clear, foamy liquid is a sign of acid tummy. If you see her do any of those, I'd discuss with the vet about starting 1/4 of a 10mg Pepcid AC (do not get anything but Pepcid AC) once a day; i buy OTC at walmart. Typically, the best time to give it is before bed ..it's bitter so it needs to go down fast or put it in a gel cap. Also, continuing to feed small meals helps absorb excess acid.

Re: 1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, +3 207

Hi Josie, sorry Ripley is not feeling well today. I know it is a worry with not eating. Sending healing and appy vines for Ripley. Good info above from Marje

1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, +3 207, +4 175

Yay! 90% of food eaten! :-D

Marje: Thanks for the info. I'm waiting to hear back from vet re: Zofran prescription. She just ate almost the rest of her food! She looks much better, perkier. (sigh of relief) And thanks for letting me know about acid tummy; haven't seen any symptoms yet, but will def. look out for them.

Ann: Thank you! She's much better now ~ maybe the A/B have gone thru her system already.

1/16 Ripley AMPS 183, +3 207, +4 175, +5 128

A little later than normal, but finally joined the CPC today!

Not sure if she'll make it to the green lagoon, today, but happy with blue. And eating.

Now she's basking in the sun.

Ahhhh, the sweetness of normalcy. :-D

Aw man I just realized I typed the wrong date in today's condo this morning ohmygod_smile .

Today:
AMPS: 183 (Clavamox, ate a little food)
+3 207
+4 175 (ate more food!)
+5 128
PMPS: 138

Don't know if she went into the green today, but based on her PMPS, she may have. I do know I love that PMPS number!

She's eating her dinner. Yippee! But she has suddenly decided that the tuna flakes and freeze dried shrimp mixed in w/her food isn't good enough. Tonight's winner: freeze dried turkey! I'm so glad I have a variety of flavors to meet her needs. And as long as she's eating, I'll definitely try to meet her appy needs :-D .

I'm going to try to give her A/B after she eats, to avoid the no appy like this morning. I know the A/B is helping her infection, but it breaks my heart to see her feel miserable from it. (Vet didn't return my call requesting diff. A/B. grrr)

I wish everyone in LL a peaceful, warm night! Enjoy the fll_moon !!
