Morning LL!! ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) (white mocha - yum!), and Happy HUMP DAY!

I would like to thank everyone that visited Mannie yesterday, offered support, help, guidance. I am so grateful for this board and how we are all there for those that need the support. I am sorry that I just didn't have time to visit you all - but do know I thought of you all. Many thanks from Mannie and his bean.

and what a day yesterday.... Mannie has a UTI, and will be put on Clavamox as soon as I can pick that up today. For the past three weeks I have been concerned about him - uncharacteristically high numbers, erratic numbers. I knew I needed to get Mannie in for a redo on a urinalysis. After the pukus episode yesterday morning (euwwww: it was everywhere), and a rising BG up to 476, I took him to the vet, had the urinalysis done. My vet (well, the new one there - I like her - very attuned to FD and what other factors, such as UTI's, can affect our kitties) called - we have a UTI. He will be put on Clavamox until we have the results back from the C&S to know for sure the bacteria we are dealing with. The interesting thing is that Mannie has no symptoms, short of high BG's: no excessive trips to the LB, no straining, no apparent pain, no nothing... he acts just fine.... so bottom line: he is now on a fast track for frequent urinalysis, because I honestly would not have know he had one.

Despite all that Mannie is one happy furball. :-D He put me to bed last night, woke me up this morning, ready to get his day rolling. You could see it on his face: "move faster woman, let's go, and where is my breffis!" He has spent the remainder of the time guarding the nanners - no one has been allowed near the stash. Well, with on exception. Elsa, his civvie sister, came up to them last night, cautiously approached, with the "may I?" look on her face. what a guy - he gave her 5 minutes. One elated civvie!

Have a great day everyone! I hope all our ailing kitties feel better today. Mannie and I hold you close to our hearts.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

353 @ +2... i love (oh sure) bad test strips... first test was a 153  . hmmmmm, doubtful. rested got a 353, retested again got a 374. We went with the 353. How I would have loved to claim the 153, but knew it was bogus.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

Dang on the test strip. You'll see them numbers for real soon I'm sure. Hope the Clavamox fixes him right up.

Mannie must really like Elsa - how adorable!

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

MIchelle: Mike told me last night about Mannie's UTI when I got in.  I was really surprised because I knew he had not had any symptoms. I'm so
glad you got him in really fast and that you are starting treatment today. I know his numbers will come back down in true Mannie style. Sending him lots of healing vines!

Mannie..do you need some KTSS today? We'll come visit you with KTSS and fresh nip???

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

Hi guys!
Isn't Mannie fantastic? He just takes everything in stride. He'll probably even like the Clavamox!!! Another test-strip error? Are you sure you want to stick with that fancy new, high-reading meter and its strips??
Have a good day today. So glad you'll be starting the antibiotics.

Ella
Hey Mannie, You still got vetty smell? I'm coming over again to help you chillax with a KTSS treatment.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

poor Mannie, but at least you now have an explanation for these high numbers and Mannie will be on his way to recovery.
Glad to hear he's in good spirits though. Have a grand Wednesday

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

Michelle, I 'm glad it's 'only' a UTI, and with treatment, Mannie will be as good as new. :-D
Nice to see pink now, isn't it? :-D
What a sweetheart he is even when he's sick.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

Good morning guys .. sorry to hear mannie isn't up to par, but hopefully with his meds he'll be back down to some nice numbers before you know it .. have a great day guys!

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353

thanks everybody!

Devon - thanks! I hope so too. paws crossed.

Barb - I Know on the "only a uti". not the best news, but a treatable one. so on that note I am truly relieved. and yes - SO NICE TO SEE PINK!

Iorwen - hi, and thanks. I think the amazing thing about all this is that he is in good spirits - happy kitty. He just takes it all in stride, never complains about anything.

Hi Roni - Thanks - and bring on the AB's! He usually takes these type of things well - so I am hoping it won't be a battle.... OK Mannie: easy to med, right?

Hi Ella - me just night! I hear it is banana flavored (euwww), but hey - the nanner King may just like that.  and yes - another test strip error - unreal! Not too sure I want to stick with this meter.... will be reevaluating that issue too. I hate retesting when you suspect the strip is bogus. frugality rears its ugly, or beautiful, head there.

Hi Marjorie - oh, i know - no symptoms.... so swear that the next time we get unexpected drastically elevated BGs for more than a day he will be in for a urinalysis. I suspect he has been dealing with this since 12/31. Which is upsetting, in a way. Now I know....

Hi Karrie - I know on the strip. Mannie so good about the repeated tests, but ya know... wish it just didn't happen. And true on elsa - they all get along very well, so now and then he lets her mess with what he views as his. It was so cute to watch them last night.

Gracie - that would be so cool! can you guys come? Moonie says she has some jewish chicken soup too - it sound so yummy. Bring Tobey - I will let him play with my nanners... and you gots fresh nip? SWEET!: mine is all dried and shrivelly.... see you soon! ~~ Mannie

Thanks Rusty! I am so looking forward to seeing you guys! ~~ Mannie

Moonie -you are THE BEST! i know the the medicine... :? my bean says it tastes like bananas, and being the nanner king that I should like it.... i dunno. it's kinda scary, ya know? Thanks for coming today, you guys are the best! See you soon! ~~ Mannie

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221

Michelle, I haven't been on the board much, so I missed all of the ugly numbers, sorry...you know how much I sympathize, we have enough of those Hi's and black numbers and I know how that makes you feel! Good for you though, getting him checked out and finding the cause of those numbers. Now hopefully the Clavamox will be the perfect AB and those ugly numbers will be history!! I see he's already down to yellow, so going the right direction, yay Mannie!

One bad test, ok.....but If you see a lot of wonky readings, I would ditch that meter. I'm sure you already have that thought in your head though! ;-)

I'm afraid that Tinkles would not be the perfect role model for Mannie...he slept through his PM+6 snack last night, I found it in the feeder this morning untouched. He sometimes needs a personal escort to the feeder too, for his later mms, particularly the +4 and +6....maybe he's just not that hungry at that time. He will hear it and not move too sometimes!

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221

Hi Michelle. NIce to see those numbers coming down for you guys. I'm so glad that the mystery is solved and now with the antibiotic I'm willing to bet things will improve quickly.

NOw Mannie make sure and take your medicine like the good boy you are. OK?

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221

Thanks guys!

Hi Lisa - So do I!, and paws crossed!! :-D

Hi Laurie - I hope so too - I feel bad that I didn't act sooner when the ugly numbers started coming back. I figured it was him just loosing momentum, since he really didn't show any symptoms of a UTI. I now know better. For him it appears that that was a symptom. :? and yes on the meter. the thought has crossed my mind. -- oh too funny then on Mt T and the feeder. Mannie too wants the escort. He just doesn't see the big deal, and then looks at me with that "what?" look when the civvie eats it instead of him. sheshhhh Mannie  Mannie is the same - hears it, just sits there. silly boys!

have a great day everyone! I am off for a hair cut - sorely needed, and then a visit to DT Seattle to see former co-workers for some much needed office gossip.

Hi Barb - and thanks! I am so glad to finally have a reason for the past couple of weeks! phew... and I have asked him to be a good boy, He usually is, but this is his mouth, and well..... nobody messes with his mouth. Could be interesting....

Do Lou - YAY!!!! Yo are coming too - I can't wait to compare vetty notes. How's your tummy? Is it weird to have no fur there? I don't think I'd like that much... See you soon ~~ Mannie

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221

Hi Michelle - I just wanted to let you know that if you have problems with getting the Clavimox into Mannie's mouth :o you can try mixing it into a small amt of food. The vet always said this is not a preferred method, but I have done it on several occasions with a couple of my cats and it's worked fine. Just make sure it's a small amt of food so they eat it all. Oh, and it won't work with a picky eater, like Muffin, but it works on my boys who will eat almost anything  Interestingly, too, this Orbax that Kibby is on this time, is chicken flavored or something, and they said it's fine to mix in food. Kibby seems to like the taste.

Have fun DT today, and good luck with the meds. Hopefully Mannie will be just as cooperative with that as he is with everything else, and his numbers will come down soon.

ETA: Mannie - I'za come wit da ktss to you house, kay? - Lubs, Muffin

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221

:thumbup +4~Low Yellow :thumbup Way to Go! Mannie! Getting better just with the thought of abs.

On the Infinity, I've found that if the drop isn't big enough or if I hold it at a strange angle, it doesn't draw up the blood fast enough. I usually get an error reading though and it hasn't happened too often. I was going to contact the company today about a case.

If you do change the one Celi is using sounds good. I've been considering it for a backup meter, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CUPSNG/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20 you can get it and the strips pretty reasonably on Amazon . A plus is that Walgreens carries it so there is a retail source for emergencies.

Mannie, oh I had that! But even though it tasted yucky the medicine made me feel better right away. We put you last on KTSS so we can stay and give you an extra treatment. You take it easy, I'll drive again! -- Tess

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221

Yay! Yellows for Mannie! Only on for a sec, but wanted to give a congrats on better numbers!!

I'z on my way over, Mannie! Soundz like we'll have a full house! KTSS for all! Mah mama haz been shavin me, so I'z gotz de bald spots all ober! Tryz not to laugh, okay? See you soon! --Willie

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221, +6.5 194, +8 185

194 @ +6.5.
185 @ +8 -- so delightful to see blue. AB's start tonight. SWEET!

Hi Anne - thanks! It's been a while since I have had to med Mannie - hopefully he will be a good boy, and I won't have to resort to food mixing. I had thought of that, if he proves difficult. He really doesn't like anyone in his mouth, but maybe if I am quick enough....  thanks too on everything else - off to DT soon. :-D

Hi Ann - agreed on the Infinity - I have had the same problem: if the drop isn't big enough or if I hold it at a strange angle, it doesn't draw up the blood fast enough, and i get an error message. It doesn't happen often, so I've let is go. For some reason I've recently had a couple of bogus strips - not too sure what is up with that... ??? Thanks for the meter link for the one that Celi uses. I need to get another back up meter. (nice on the walgreens thing, as they are just up the street) I have the ultra one touch - i do like it, but the strips are very expensive. well, for now sticking with the infinity, as for the most part, i do like it. I think too that alot of my issues lately have been Mannie, and numbers that are all over the place....

Hi Christie - yes, that was soooooooo nice! And the have a blue was heaven. I hope the ABs work well and quick, nice I can start to give them to him.

Willie - sweet dude! Come on over! You gots shaved to? You and Do Lo can compare notes.... so you look funny? I won't laugh either.... ~~ Mannie

Tess - oh oh, you drivin'? in da furrari? SWEET! We will go extra fast then. I LOVE speed! oh ok on the medicine then. i will take it if it makes m better.... are you sure??? ~~ Mannie

Muffin!!!! You coming too? I feel better already! See you soon! ~~ Mannie

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221, +6.5 194, +8 185

Oh YES! Look at those numbers coming down. Oh Michelle, that looks so good. Wait til the med starts doing it's magic. :-D

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +2 353, +4 221, +6.5 194, +8 185

Hi Michelle,
I just got home an hour ago and a, catching up on everyone. Mannie's numbers are lookng better. Sorry it is a UTI but good news it isn't anything serious as UTI's can be taken care of with the antibiotics. Maggie says as soon as Mannie is feeling better, we should find some excuse to have a get together. Take care.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +8 185, +11 102

102 @ +11, retest @ 89.  well now, isn't this interesting.... I can hardly wait for pmps... :-D and no - haven't started the AB's yet.....

Hi Barb - will you look at that +11. didn't expect that. wow, and we haven't started the meds yet.

Hi Ann - me too, but at least now there is an explanation for all the craziness. Mannie says to tell Maggie she has a deal: a get together for sure.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +8 185, +11 102

Mannie's secret is out. I didn't know a UTI could put a kitty in the red. Something to check if Leo and I don't get his numbers under control soon.

Amen to Celi and Ann on the Novamax meter. It's one of the few that only needs .3ul of blood (Relion is .6), and the strips are $17.23 per 50 pack on Amazon. I love mine.

Here's a link to the stats on a bunch of different meters. You can even sort it by column.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +8 185, +11 102

Go, Mannie, go!! :)

Dude, she did do de shavin all ober!! It'z all random! I know it'z to help my scabbers feel bedder, and so'z she can see if it is getting more bad, but geez. Not. kewl.

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +8 185, +11 102

Hi Michelle!
Im not so happy to hear about the UTI, BUT of course Im thrilled to hear THIS could be the reason behind these wonky, uncharacteristic numbers for Mannie. What a relief it must be for you.

Dont feel bad about not realizing sooner. After dozens and dozens of UTI's with Latte, I couldnt for the life of me identify them until symptoms were real bad. And sometimes, nothing would seem too out of the ordinary, but we would do a u/a at a regular check and she would actually have one. ohmygod_smile You do your best to recognize, be proactive, and treat. Thats all you can do. *throw your hands up smilie*

:YMHUG: To you and Mannie. I bet in no time you will start seeing the numbers come down......

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +8 185, +11 102, PMPS 74/82

74, retest @ 82. and yes.... I shot a falling number. In my defense: testing went: 102 @ +11, 89 (retest), 74 @ ps, 82 (retest), so If one counts the retest then it is rising. :-D Clavamox was started tonight too: 1.4 ml. and taken without too much fuss: heck he even washed the dribble off his chin  , but

It feels SO COOL to have a GREEN pmps!!!!! How long has it been since I could say that.... :-D I will check him @ +.5, just cuz...

Thanks Carolyn - I am truly relieved to have a reason for all of Mannie's wonkiness - and I really think, but can't prove, that all this started back on 12/31 - it was then that his numbers started doing odd things, and the dental just confused it all. anyways - thank you! I know I can't predict these things, but wow - i want a crystal ball.  see -----> :-D :-D :-D

Hi Barb - wow, and I am happy - it has been what seems like forever since we have had the potential for a truly great green cycle. will see what happens, but the pmps was so nice.

Hi Lacie - it is something that I will be watching going forward for Mannie. it was uncharacteristic, and now I know why. Thank you to for the link. I do need a new back up meter, so I will be looking.

Thanks Christie - I sure hope so! Go Mannie!

Willie dude - you are unique man - I love your shave - very fashionable. it will be OK... if it helps, well yeah - it will be OK. hey -see you later? ~~ Mannie

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +8 185, +11 102, PMPS 74/82

I'm sorry to hear about Mannie's UTI.

Dr. Lisa says this about Clavamox:

Clavamox is the most common broad-spectrum antibiotic that is administered to cats. It causes vomiting and/or diarrhea in many cats but it is one of the safer choices of antibiotics. It comes in pill or liquid form. I greatly prefer the pills because they are very palatable and can be crushed and added to canned food. I do not like pilling cats so if your cat will not eat crushed clavamox tablets in tasty canned food or baby food, then use the liquid.

On this site: http://catinfo.org/?link=urinarytracthealth

Feel better soon, Mannie!

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, +8 185, +11 102, PMPS 74/82

 Doing happy dance here. Happy happy happy.

Michelle, I keep forgetting to say, I'm sorry Mannie is sick, just so darn happy for him and you, that you found out why his numbers were so high, and now he's getting treated.
Heck, he was coming down even before the ab...what is that about?

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, PMPS 74/82, +.5 84

84 @ +.5

Hi Linda - thanks for the info. I had heard that it can cause vomiting, so my eyes are on the boy to see how he does. I wish I could remember but I think I have given it to him before, without issue... i dunno. It's been a while. Makes me a little nervous, but well we can deal with it if that happens, and the diarrhea. Thanks for the link too!

Hi Barb - me too!

Re: 1/26 Mannie AMPS 438, PMPS 74/82, +.5 84

Nice that Mannie's numbers decided to come down in advance of the AB. (What's up with that?) Think Mannie's ways telling you he had a UTI and once you caught on, his numbers came down?

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +.5 84, + 1 77

77 @ +1. I went with a 10% MC for mini meal #1. next test@ +1.5

Thanks Lisa - it is so nice to see!

Hi Sienne - oh I know - hadn't even started with the ABs. and yes - what is up with that.... you could be right. Could it be that his systems are fighting this UTI on it's own?, and down came the numbers? Maybe the insulin just won this round today. I dunno.... what ever it is I'll take it with no complaints.

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +.5 84, + 1 77

Wow, what a great recovery for Mannie! Those numbers look much better!

I hope he handles the clavamox ok...it makes Emma vomit. We've been through it many times. It's crazy that he has a uti with no symptoms. Emma is the opposite - I can tell almost right away because her behavior really changes. I guess ECID!

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +.5 84, + 1 77

I just knew Mannie was coming down today!!!! Whoot! Lookat those numbers!!

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +.5 84, + 1 77

Holy Cow! Look at Mannie go!! Clavamox, watch out!! (Stu hated the liquid, but it was easier than pilling him, which was almost impossible).

Keep up the good work and have a good first Clavamoxing.

Ella & Rusty

p.s. I'm looking at the NovaMax, too. Need a back-up of a different brand. (but the ReliOn Micro only needs .3 of blood; it was the Ultima that needed .6)

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +.5 84, + 1 77, +1.5 65

65 @ 1.5, fed this with a small tsp 14% HC w/ gravy, will test @ +2

Hi Roni! Sweet huh. been a while since I had to deal with 65's...

Hi Kristen - wow indeed. Not to sure where it came from, no AB's on board before he started this ride - but no complaints. And so far no issues with the Clavamox, been 2 hours and no signs that he is about to hurl (ANTI-JINX!) so true I guess on the ECID - he really had no symptoms, short of really high BG numbers.

Hi Ella - do you believe it? I know - i opted for the liquid. I probably could have pilled him, but this just seemed easier? It was funny when he cleaned up, on his own, the little bit that dribbled.  yeah - thinking about the nova max too. I need a new back up, if only because the one I have the strips are rather pricey...

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +.5 84, + 1 77, +1.5 65, +2 56

SWEEEEET!!!!!!! Way to pull off a green for your bean!!!! Bet he's looking all proud

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +1.5 65, +2 56, +2.5 42

 42 @ +2.5, fed more 18% HC with a drop of karo, will retest @ +3

barb - :-D

karrie - that he is. :-D :-D very alert, lovin' all that good gravy stuff he's getting....

and YAY - so far, no clavamox issues. (anti -jinx!)

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +1.5 65, +2 56, +2.5 42

Oh my, Mannie is amazing! It looks like it's going to be a long night! Way to go Mannie! Yes, anti-jtnx with the antibiotics and no side effects, This looks like a good excuse to have a party when Mannie is done with his antibiotics.

Re: 1/26 Mannie PMPS 74/82, +1.5 65, +2 56, +2.5 42

:o :o :o Mannie? You are staying incognito aren't you....one day the high one no one recognizes and the next night...bottoming out!! Holy cow....you keep your bean on her toes. Great to see him back in green Michelle...I know those 42s at 2.5!!  And you think "it's gonna be a loooonggg night!!".

Yay on starting the ABs!!

Hi Marjorie - go figure on this one! Shesshhhh, and the AB's have just been started. It is so great one have a great amps - love that part, not too sure on the late night part, but hey - it's OK. It's heaven not to be writing about reds and black numbers. :-D

Hi Ann - oh so true! long night, and no side effects: anti-jinx again. :-D Mannie saw the word party and has started to work on a menu: his done with ABs menu. I hated to tell him that he has a few days to go...
