So.... the second vet was adamant that Rico doesn't suffer from EPI or IBD, based on his Test Results. He said that since his WBC are normal, there is no reason to worry. He prescribed a food complement based on vitamins and suggested a new test about lipase in about a month's time. He said that amylase raises too easily in cases of stress (such as a visit to the vet, for example) and is not to be taken into consideration. He also referred me to a vet dentist with whom I have an appointment on Wednesday morning for further dental examination so as to either discover or elinminate the cause of Rico's initial gum inflamation.

How does all this sound to you?

I attach information on the food' complement's (Nutriforce Gel) composition and indications and I would like to know if this is going to affect his diabetes or not...

Composition : Vitamin A / D / E / B1 / B2 / B6 / B12, niacin, pantothenic acid, folic acid, biotin. Calcium, phosphorus, Potassium. gamma-linoleic acid. Taurine. Iron, Cobalt, zinc, iodine, manganese

Indications : It is a concentrated energy supplement in gel form for dogs and cats. It is indicated in cases of stimulation of the body such as recovery from illness, reduced appetite, poor physical condition, intense physical effort. It is highly digestible and can also be administered as a reward after training.

Sorry he’s feeling poorly but I disagree with your vet. Max had chronic pancreatitis and his ALT was often above normal. I do not think it or EPI can be ruled out. My vet said unless markedly over the high norm it and of itself is not a concern. Rico’s is getting high. Can they run a Spec fPL test for pancreatitis? It needs to be sent to a lab and I do not know if available in Greece if not can it be sent to a neighboring country? . His potassium is pretty low and was make him not feel well and possibly be apparent.
I don’t know about the product suggested but would ask about supplementing hud potassium.

I wonder if this supplement would work as well? https://oxbowanimalhealth.com/product/critical-care-carnivore/

Ask the vets if they can do a courtesy consult with a vet school or another vet hospital or even on VIN.com which is a vet only forum. This is no cost to you. The vet hospital my zoo goes to is well known and respected and considered one of the top hospitals in the US. PM me for the vet consult info.

I'm located in Greece. Vets here do not consult - they do not care much about felines either... :( Oxbow is imported but not the carnivore care - just the herbivore one, unfortunately...

I will have to take him to Athens for the fPL test - unless I somehow manage to order it and supply it to the vet myself... I really feel exhausted trying to find out everything myself with local vets remaining so uninterested... :(

Don’t be scared. It might not mean anything. Ad I said Mac had double ALT at times but no liver disease. One test means nothing also. When feeling better it could return to normal.

]I know Yanna. We're in the same group, helping others with diabetic cats and encouraging them to join FDMB. :)[/QUOTE]

Have you asked her about the test for pancreatitis?

Naomi had chronic pancreatitis without having ALT or AST elevated. She had no symptoms either at the time of diagnosis.

When my vet had given her a pill (I really don't remember for what reason), her bg dropped a lot, so the the vet figured there was some inflammation in her body and sent blood sample to a laboratory in Germany. The fPLI results indicated my cat had chronic pancreatitis.
This was something we didn't expect because by that time all CBC tests had shown Naomi had CKD and Diabetes

No, when we discussed Rico I didn't know about this test. I'll get in touch with her tomorrow, thank you!
