Second posting here! Thanks Sienne and Christie for your comments on my first post. I will get my boyfriend to get some spot check numbers today, and I can get at least one in in the evening. Also glad to get the suggestion of getting a +11 reading to know if Fiefel is going up or down - will start doing that!

Re: 1/25 Fiefel AMPS 145.8

Hi Jackie & Fiefel! Welcome!

Here is the link to yesterday's condo (thread)
We link the previous condo to the first post of each day and that keeps our condos all together. Plus, it makes it easy for others to just lick on the link and see what transpired the day before.

I am SO glad that Fiefel is now on canned foods. My two were eating the dry with a can or two here and there for about 13 years!! My old vet said that it would keep their teeth clean too! Wow! How wrong was that! I blame the dry for getting them into the diabetes after all that time. They are so much healthier now that I am feeding the canned exclusively.

I am wonder what kind of syringes you are using. Do you have the ones with half unit markings?
Use the Walmart brand 3/10 ml 29 gauge 12.7mm 1/2 inch syringes.
The half unit syringes make the dosing a lot easier since when we make adjustments in the dose, we do so in .25u increments. If you do not have that type of syringe, you might get some for future use.

We also suggest that you have a constant supply of canned food that is high in carbohydrates. >18% with gravy. When the numbers go low, we give ONLY the gravy from those cans to get the numbers higher. Jane & Binky's food chart shows all types of canned foods. http://binkyspage.tripod.com/canfood.html

I am so happy that you are using Lantus (We had been on Vetsulin for 1.5 months and it was disaster! You get much better control of the numbers with a long duration insulin like Lantus)

Have you read the starred stickies at the top of the page? Sienne linked them for you yesterday. If you have any questions, please post them in your condo. We hope to help you and Fiefel as you progress.

Nice job on getting your SS up and attached to your signature. Here is another link for you to complete your Profile :

That way, you won't get a million questions like "When was Fiefel diagnosed" and "Does he have any other medical problems and what meter are you using!" ;-)

We post daily...and you have the header done correctly. Very nice!! It is a pleasure to see you and Fiefel and I wish you all the very best!!

Re: 1/25 Fiefel AMPS 145.8

Just out of curiosity, are you outside of the US? I'm guessing that you are, given you've got some decimals in your BG numbers. You may find a slightly different version of our SS useful. It's the "World" version and it will convert between the different measurement systems automatically. The template is in the Spreadsheet post in the Tech Support center -- you just need to click on the "Outside the USA" for the WORLD INSULIN TEMPLATE form. If you want to provide a copy of your SS to your vet, s/he will probably want to see the numbers in mmol vs. mg, the latter being used in the US.

Hi guys, don't think I have posted in Fiefel's condo before .. welcome! I like how you're already seeing a blue amps number .. have a great day!

Re: 1/25 Fiefel AMPS 145.8

I have a link to the new world template in my signature. Randi and Max were amazing getting it working. Its so much easier than remembering the reading and converting.

You select the world option at the bottom and enter the info in that spread sheet. It automatically populates the US reading on the US spreadsheet. This spreadsheet rocks!

My conversions stopped last month because a friend shipped me a US meter and strips. They are so much cheaper down there. But then I found out I can buy strips for my accuchek aviva nano on ebay (nova scotia somewhere) for as cheap as the us strips. ohmygod_smile

Welcome to LantusLand

Re: 1/25 Fiefel AMPS 145.8, +5 230

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I will take a look into the spreadsheets tonight. I am in Canada, and I have multiplied all my numbers by 18 since I thought taht's what everyone did - I was so confused at first on this forum because the numbers people were getting were so difficult to compare! I just thought everyone was doing these calculations before posting them. I didn't know where the templates were at first either for the SS - I just made mine by looking at others and trying to make it look the same. I'll get my Profile sheet up soon as well.

I have the BD ultra-fine syringes (ultra fine II I think? I'm not at home right now) and they do have the half measurments. I have the AlphaTrak testing system - likely more difficult to find those test strips, but I'll take a look on ebay - cheaper would be much better! Right now I can only get them from the vet.. I do like the AlphaTrak for the low blood sample size, but it is more of a hassle to get the strips. Speaking of - time to call the vet to make sure they ordered more for me.

Fiefel's lunchtime test was higher than the morning.. I'll test him again tonight and see where he's at!
